That's a limited edition body style with a 4.6L Cobra engine. It just has some stripes and other nick nacks. If you trade, you might as well get the Cobra-R with the supercharger! I think the new 2003 1/2 might have a new engine based on a 5.0L engine rather than the 4.6L.

28-30G's for the new Mach-1

Saw one run at Atlanta Motor Speedway...Ran a 13.30 @ 105+

The '03 Cobra is the badass though.
At 34,000 for the coupe and 38,000 for the drop top, they aren't cheap. I've seen on the Mustang forums, some of the guys are getting 450+HP on the dynos with around $1,200 in mods. Not too SHABBY!

The only thing I didn't like about the Mach1's were the cheesy rims. Everything else was cool. It has the "detuned" Cobra motor in it... It's got different cams, and intake, etc.. in it for optimal performance in the lower RPM's. The solid rear axle is what makes this puppy come to life. No weak half-shafts, or wheel-hop that the IRS brings.

I'll say this...You'll love it! but.... the first time you need to through something in the back, your going to be missing the good ole R/T.

I've gone back and forth myself over the last several years between trucks and pony cars. Conclusion, I love both, but when I'm without one I miss it. I just sold my Mustang, and I'm wanting a new Cobra like crazy..Maybe a supercharger on the Dakota will ease my pain???

Why buy another Mustang?!?!???

Your only young once and if you have some cash to throw around why not get something truly fierce?

Some good cars to tryout if you wish to be a little on the unique side...

Used Cars, Any Pre 1970 Hot Rod, major tinkering, perhaps some repairs. Another Idea would be to find a near Mint Condition Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo and tweek and mod that, can't really beat AWD with 320 hp from the factory in a car that light with a V6.

New Cars, Try a Suburu WRX with the Turbo on it, its light, Fast a hell and with a Turbo boost box in the cab to those instant boosts you can roast any Mildly modded Camaro, Mustang, or Firebird on the road. A little NOS kit and your hauling some serious ass with a car that was built to perform at higher speeds.

Mustangs have that been there, done that feel to them that some of these other cars prevent. I give major props to anyone at the track or on the road with a off the wall car that runs like hell, even if you don't win at least you get some major respect for not being part of the wannabe crowd.

NO MATTER what car you purchase, you AREN'T allowed to lose against a ricer!

Wake up there Mr Sleepy.

You said you're not allowed to lose to rice, but you said to get a SUBARU?? I'm confused.....

For me Mustang is just a history. I've owned and driven them since I was old enough to buy cars on my own.

I have had a few...
89 25th anniversary GT
1991 Coupe LX 5.0
89 LX convertible 4-banger transplant to 5.0
1994 GT
1994 & 1995 GT convertible

So yeah I see what you're talking about with the been there done that comment, but you can't beat strollin through the gears in a good old American V-8. And for me what better V-8 than in a Stang. I have made a lot of friends through my local Mustang club too. Had a lot of good memories over the the past several years.

That's just me though. That is the reason I bought the Dakota though. For that SLEEPER type vehicle... Hey whatever floats your boat.

No flames intended, nor do I disrespect other vehicles, just my opinions

If you want a real sleeper, try a '99 or '00 Ford Contour with the 2.5L V6 and the MTX-75 5-Speed. Then you can do a very inexpensive 3.0L HO swap, or go all out and do a mild 3.5L bore and stroker. After that, add a turbo or S/C to it and you're talking some serious numbers on a car that looks like any late model rental car. The initial turbo kit can easily put over 300 FWHP down. That's scary.

I wouldn't consider A Suburu to be rice. For many many years suburu has been making some of the worlds finest Rally cars, and the best AWD systems available in a automobile.

Rice cars to me is ANY make or model of car that shares a few characteristics.

Ricers have butt loads of stickers, cause as we all know, stickers make them go faster.

Ricers have fart cans on the rear end, nothing scares me quite like the sound of a resonating 4 cylinder without a muffler.

Ricers have neon, strap on spoilers that don't match the cars natural styling, and require copeous amounts of water on the road to even attempt a proper burnout.

So by that I wouldn't consider a suburu to be rice. But it could be... for that matter, a Dakota could be "Riced" out too, but that would be difficult considering how sexy the Dak looks.

Its the Honda with a 5 speed, a small whine under the hood, and no Stickers or fart is the one you really need to worry about. Those people are enthusiasts in my opinion. Nothing wrong with making a car fast, just don't pretend your Fast and Furious.

A Stealth R/T Twin Turbo is NOT a light car. The AWD and 4 wheel steering hardware that it has pork it up to (according to an old magazine I have around here somewhere) over 3800 pounds, or as the mag put it, "about the same weight as a Hemi Road Runner". It is disgustingly heavy for its size. I am wonding how much weight trashing the (IMO worthless) 4 Wheel Steering would take off.

My n/a 91 RX7 ran a 14.9 with mufflers and a k&n, then with the 150 shot of juice, hehe, 13.7 on slicks. I loved that car. But i won't trade my Dak for anything right now.

I've had a chance to drive 2 AWD Twin Turbo Stealths before.... and I loved it, and although im not a very good Track Driver, the owner managed low 13's with it. Being a Mitsubishi at its core, I'm not familiar with that can be done to that car, but I was impressed enough to spend some time trying to buy one. Guess the bulk of em aren't the same as the ones I drove. Hmmmm....
Still..... Wicked looking car.

Talking about the Mach1? Yeah, supposidly one of the test guys at a stang show dynoed in around 290 horse, so ya know it has to be pulling quite a bit more than 305 horse at the flywheel. Guy got it to run 12.97 with drag radials, Stock 5-speed that is.

I checked up on the suspension, I didnt read into the fine details but its lowered a 1/2 inch. (compared to the GT)

Hey i personally have had a mustang for 3 years. Its a 1979(the first year back with a 5.0). I rebuilt it with a lot of aftermarket stuff. It should run low 13s(i haven't run it yet) I just got an all black'02 RT CC. I needed it for reliable transportation through the winter. I love them both, and i recommend both of them to anyone. What really scares me are these factory cars coming from ford that are faster than most older hopped up cars(or trucks). It somewhat sucks that I might get beat by stock cars, when i have put some much time and energy into making my car what it is. Anyway, i love my dakota and have many plans for it in the future.

Dakotastang....

You hit the nail on the head with that statement about hating to get beat by a stock car....

My LX with a few bolt-ons went 13.60's-13.80's for the longest time. It was a very respectable street car at one time.... But now you've got stock 4-bangers that run almost that fast????????

It kinda sucks....One thing I'm definitely glad to see, is that Ford answered the RICE call very well with the new Cobra and the other products coming shortly. Don't want CIVIC's tearing up the American sports cars. (pony cars)

Kenne Bell says to get your flywheel horsepower if you've had it dynoed is to multiply the RWH by .8.That's 362 horses for the Mach 1.

Well I went over to the ford dealer yesterday and ordered a Mach.

Buddy of mine is going to buy my truck for 20,000 since the ford dealer was only going to offer the invoice on the truck. (12,000 dollars) The thing about that is, the ford dealer was only going to give me 12,000 for the thing and I still owe 13 on it (That was with a shaker hood, pcm, ARE tannuea cover/bedrug and the tannuea remote locks). The guy told me the low offer was because it was prior to winter and 2wd vehicles (esspecially a performance vehicle) dont hold there value as well in the winter months. So being the smart ass I am I asked him if that meant that I was going to get a few thousand off on the mach 1 since it is a performance vehicle prior to the winter months... Of course it didnt work that way :P.

Anyway gotta roll with the punches I guess as far as that goes. The salesman was a real nice guy though and told me my best bet is to sell the truck myself, it was quite obvious at that point though, so I did just that. Plus making sure one of my friends get it, it gives me peice of mind knowing that its going to a home where somebody will take care of it like I did when I had it.

Anyway the Mach will be Torch Red, Interior upgrade package, and of course a 5-speed. I guess ill just have to drive the beater for now, car is supposed to be in early december, was going to be mid november but ford keeps pushing the release back for some reason.

I feel like I did back before I got my R/T :) all excited.

Multiplying doesn't seem right...I think he meant divide by .8...cuz if I multiplied my rwhp which is 313 it equals like 250 and I know thats not right. 313 divided by .8 is 391HP so that seems more along the lines of what its supposed to be.

For the '03 Cobra, if it put down 391 RWHP on the dyno, that means it's over 450 hp at the crank. It's a manual, so 391 divided by 0.85 equals 460 crank hp. That's damn nasty out of a 4.6L. Nothing like 100 HP/Litre. If it was an auto tranny, then you would divide the RWHP by 0.8. The new SVT Cobra is definitely a force in it's own catagory right now.
