well guys, i pretty much had it with this truck...first of all i bring it home after purchase put some 93 in her and drove it around to see what she has(truck is bone stock)...damn thing pingged like a SOB...took back to dealer and found that my intake gasket was shot..ok i can live with that..i get back, week later freakin rear end feels like its gonna shake itself of the truck..WTF!!...so i take it back and now its MY prob. they wont cover...now i got a HUGE antfreeze leak and the stupid water pump is shot(should of know, started making squealing sounds under hood)...damn thing only has 32k on it..my last truck was a 00'R/T and had 45+K..no probs whatsoever....i'm thinking 99' was a bad year from what i hear..swear, i'm driven a mid 90s F-150...plus to boot other SMALL things like steering wheel pops like hell, driver side window shakes to all hell when moving up and down, ect..i see my future behind a Lightning if this truck keeps falling apart..i love this thing but i'd like to stick my hard earned money into go fast mods, not replacement parts, least not at this milage...

thanks for listening

Sounds like a lemon to me...Got mine used at 13,000 miles(Now at 60,000) and only major prob I had with mine is the heater core springin a leak which the dealer fixed. Lately though, I have noticed that the driver window is startin to vibrate a bit(on occasion)...will get to that myself when time permits for I doubt its anything serious.

Other than that...its been good to me

My friend really liked my DAK, so, he picked up a used 99 R/T CC, and he had a lot of probs with it; timing chain, tranny, rear, etc.

He eventually discovered that it had been stolen and recovered. Evidently, whoever had stolen it beat the crap out of it.

Replacing the water pump is a joke, anyone that can turn a wrench can replace one. Just buy a gasket with the new pump. I'll post some pictures on my website to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Dak1; the pinging is not going to go away, i have a 2000 with the 5.9 and i could not get rid of it until i had the dealer flash the computer, it is a flash that is covered under warranty but it will retard your timing and you will notice it. as far as the rest of the stuff goes if the truck has not hit 36k miles yet i dont see how they can deny warranty service for it, i would really look into that, maybe you need to take it somewhere else for service.

by the way, the rearend differential has a very poor sealing plug on it, if it has been leaking fluid you could be very low and that may cause big problems for you, make the dealer clean up the outside and install a new plug.

hey thanks Anthony G, i knew it could be done fairly easy, but my quam is that i should not be doing this right away...as the motor only has 32k on it..my question is why is the water pump going??..lemon or just not driven enough(previous owner)..who knows, ship happens i guess..lets hope this is the end of my problems..

There is no way they can turn down any kind of service that would be covered under 36K mileage warranty (unless you changed something and that was the cause of the problem). They must, by law, service/repair/replace the rear and. Call the FCC and tell them about the problem, and then go back to the dealer with the case number/trouble call number (can't rememebr what they call it), and demand to see the store GM. Don't even go through the service department. Tell the GM what the problem is with the truck, tell him the mileage and the circumstances, and what you've had to do to get results (including suing in small claims court; notifying the FCC). I guarantee he will have your truck fixed in a jiffy. Just think what a dealership would be like with it's service liscenses revoked. They'd go bankrupt in a week with no service department.

Dak1; Oops, i guess we are all looking at the 32k mileage and thought you still had warranty, nobody was thinking about the fact that the truck is over 3 years old.

you should take a long look at your owners manual and warranty info though, there is a lot of stuff covered for 6 or 7 years that noone would think is covered, i showed mine to a friend that works at the dealership here and he said they dont check the extended warranty stuff and if you dont say anything you will just get charged, one thing most people overlook is the fuel pump, it is covered for six years, he told me he knows of at least two times he replaced one and they would have been covered.

Demon Dakota, there's a dealer not far up the road from me, that people travel 50-60 miles out of there way to buy their trucks from, and, they also have a good reputation for service. They don't screw you on warranty claims, and they go out of their way to make sure that you're satisfied.

They sell a LOT of Daks and RAMs because of this.

I find it incredible that most other dealers just don't take the hint... Instead, they treat customers like crap, then, wonder why they don't get repeat business.

Brett A; "pinging" or "knocking" or "detonation"(the fancy name) is when the air/fuel mixture in your cylinder is igniting before the plug fires, if this is occuring serious damage can be done to your engine, like a hole in the cylinder wall. many other things can be ruined also, it will usually occur under heavy throttle and sound like a small rock being tossed around inside your engine

i have a 99 club cab with 37xxx miles, and the only problem ive had to speak of was a broken power steering pump shaft.....don't do donuts on crappy pavement :)
speaking of pinging, i sprayed for the first time on the track last night...best time of 14.598, but i think it was running lean...i ran down the 1/4 with a really really loud cutlass, and at the high end of the track i THOUGHT i heard pinging...it sounded like backfiring, so it couldve been the cutlass... checked the plugs, they didnt look abnormal...any advice?
