Guys,
I have always noticed that my engine frequently dies out when it is first cranked each morning. Initially, it cranks fine and runs at high idle for just a couple of seconds, then it tries to steady itself at the normal idle running speed. It is at this time that it will stutters and frequently die. I have no difficulty cranking the engine again. I just crank it and hold my foot on the accel pedal for a few seconds. Once I let off the pedal, everything returns to normal and the engine warms right up.
Could this be fixed by varying the TPS adjustment to a slightly higher value (at idle)? Do I need to adjust the throttle itself for a higher speed idle? Could the problem be something else? What are my options?

Thanks,
Kevin

please do not adjust anything, cleaning is a good idea, use combustion chamber cleaner from your local chrysler dealer and spray whole can directly into intake opening with the engine running.

i think it is a little safer to remove tb and iac sel....before cleaning....it keeps grime from running into intake manifold

Guys,
Thanks so much for the input. While waiting for responses I continued reading and found the following information on this site:
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/dea/113.html
This describes my problem to a tee. The alldata web site does not give much info regarding the problem. It just says reprogram the ecm. I called my local Dakota dealer and he informed me that I need to bring the truck in for a "catalyst failure detection problem". This will require the ecm to be reprogrammed. My question is, will this reprogramming also fix my cold start stumble problem? What do you think?
Furthermore, where can I get a copy of TSB #850 so that I can submit it to the Dakota dealer when I return the truck for repair?

Thanks again,
Kevin
