Turbo --- driven by exhaust gases.
Super --- driven by a belt or gears.

Both force compressed air into the intake.

Well,
Here's my point, you can always happen upon great deals like the Trac-lok I found for $75 in perfect condition!!!
If you wait long enough, study turbo systems, engines, what works, what doesn't, etc., you'll find an awesome deal on a t-04 that's just right for your 5.9 and you'll have the knowledge to make it work properly.
I've seen turbo's for $400 that would've worked perfectly with the 4.7 that were fully rebuilt to like new. I've seen intercoolers that would work with some custom tubing for about $300. You can search some of the 300 ZX and Supra forums for good deals on killer blow off valves, turbo timers, and boost controllers, you can find the proper connections for the plumbing for less than $60 or so, and then all you have left are the gagues and manifold. I bought a set of headers for $125 , and you can look at the Speedtweaks manifolds for the R/T TT setup. They just wouldn't be overly difficult to fab if you know the right folks. You can run it at low levels at first to get the feel of the system before you turn er' up to 9 psi and eat some lightnings, but the full kit can be built for around $2500 if you install it yourself. The tubing will take some work, but it can be done for less than you think if you again go to the right folks. You don't have to have aluminum tubing for the intake, so that'll cut cost alot. And try to think of places that can bend tube, like a muffler shop, and some places have it pre bent online without any creases in it. Guaranteed to be cheaper than you think!
Making the manifold will probably be a little tricky, but with a good cutting torch and a good welder-buddy, it's a piece of cake.

exactly, if you shop around you can make it really cheap.

i bought a used/rebuilt turbo for $100... bought a new compressor housing for it for another $100. Invested about $100 in mandrel bend tubing and flanges. (made my own header) $75 in oil lines/fittings and a $25 blowoff valve, i got started. Dad had a set of 24 lb injectors that he gave me... see, shop around and it can be done cheap.. or cheaply

I agree with MR.H and INTENSE build your own the final tally for my 4.7 turbo project was 786.00 and 42 man hours, that was everything to make it run bov, fmu, turbo, oil lines, second fuel pump i had material for the manifold and exhaust piping. and i built my own heat-exchanger for the intercooler out of sheet aluminum and used an a.c. condenser for the radiator. (water to air)
the results are real incredable its hard to explain how it feels INTENSE knows. the power is instant when it spools up not progressive like a sc motor. the most expensive thing is the gas i use cause i cant seen to keep my foot out of it. the sound and pull is addicting i dont know how much room you have but the 4.7 is pretty wide with the ohc heads. any other dak should be pretty easy i would have loved to had the room of a v6. any way get good data before attempting a project like this peace

4.7
turbo
