Clogged cat was causing mine to backfire through the tb. Could also be the belly pan gasket.

Cant' be the cats on mine considering I got mine chopped off. It does it when I romp on it on occasion...I think my problem is it has too much air going to it at one time. I could be wrong though...*shrug*

I have a 2002 R/T with a 40 series flowmaster and a home-brewed K&N intake. When I romp on it I get a backfire with short hesitation through the throttle body. Beats me too? It has only 1200 miles on it.

I have a 4.7L dakota. I noticed backfire problems when I relocated the IAT sensor. If you have relocated your IAT sensor, that could be the problem since the engine is running richer.

My v6 backfired badly after I installed a Jet 1. Apparently, it didn't like the module, so I bought a Mopar Pcm and now it is fine.

its the IAT sensor i put it back in its original place its been two weeks now no backfire i guess it was causing the pcm to richen the air/fuel mix to the manifold which induced the blowback

try checking your timing.. if you have an earlier model 3.9 the timing chain streched and can cause timing problems, loss of power, gas mileage, and cause back fire.
