So am I correct in thinking that only paxton makes a supercharger for the 4.7? I hear that they are a good company but I would definitely rather have a powerdyne with the belt drive and all that crap.

Let me shed some light on the forced induction route. I might be able to save you some headache.

2 months ago I started "TRYING" to purchase a supercharger for my '00 4.7 5-spd.

First I went with superchargersonline with the Kenne Bell. I placed my order, and was hoping to receive my kit in the mail. I dealt with Jason down there, and he was a pretty informative person. The next couple of days go by, and I get a call from Jason, and he says that Kenne Bell doesn't have a kit for the 4.7 5-spd.... I was like WHAT??? There are 2 people I know of right now with them on their trucks. He told me then, he would get in contact with Jim Bell at Kenne Bell to see what they could do.... After a weeks time, I grew impatient..

Next up....I called SpeedTweaks to order the Paxton...I placed my order with them, I was told they were in stock, but would be direct shipped from Paxton. One week later I called to check out the Paxton's location, to make sure it was in route to me...NOPE! Bernd informs me that they are making these in a one-off type deal. Furious I called Paxton...Talked to their tech rep. and he says they haven't even started R&D on the superchargers yet??????? WHAT I've been waiting now for over a week to receive this bitch in the mail, and now I'm told they're not even making the things?? He told me it could be 4 weeks or 4 months before the release of the NOVI-1000 kits for the 4.7... Pissed off, I said screw the whole thing.

I then decided interest rates weren't going to stay at 6% on homes much longer, and there was a house we were looking at, so I put the S/C fund money into the down-payment. What a BITCH. O-Well, I'm going to try the whole supercharger thing again in December, and maybe by then they will have their stuff in order.

If you have an AUTO 4.7, you can get the Kenne Bell now. They have everything ready to ship to your door. I have since found out after my quest for a Kenne Bell, that even if you have the 5-speed, you can get one as well, but you will have to send your computer to them for a custom flash... Which, wouldn't be that bad..

Happy Hunting!
Superchargersonline seemed to have the best Kenne Bell price around. Truckperformance.com was close behind.

And for the Paxton kits not even being out yet, Speedtweaks had the best price on them at 3,700+free shipping. If you want the Paxton, give them a call to see if Paxton has these things ready to go yet. Keep me informed.

Oh...By the way, Powerdyne doesn't have an application to fit the 4.7's yet. The talk is, Vortech, and Powerdyne are working on kits...The question is....WHEN will they be released?

I think you'll get a better return on the house than on the supercharger anyhow.

I've been meaning to post for a while....

I ran into another guy here in Atlanta that has a Kenne Bell 5-spd 4.7 truck. It was a brief encounter, since he was trying to catch up to some friends in the bar, but he said he had the Optimizer ONE, not the Optimizer II.

He also said he had sent it back two or three different times to get things tweaked and fixed. He was also running a water injection system that used his windshield washer reservoir for the system. He said it was getting to be necessary in the Atlanta summer heat.

Like I said, it was a brief encounter, but I am going to try and get up with him soon to talk about it some more.....

Yeah Alex...

Keep me posted...See if he's ran it in Commerce, if so what kind of times. I was at Competition Engineering (Marietta I think) almost a year ago dyno'ing the truck, when someone there told me they had heard of somebody slapping a Kenne Bell on a 4.7 Dakota.

When I get everything settled in with the whole house move, I may plan a trip to Atlanta to hit the track. It's only 2-1/2 hours away. I am in a Mustang Club here in Augusta, and one of my good friends knows several people in the Mustang Powerhouse of Atlanta...So I might bring some FERDS with me too. Naturally aspirated, and as close to stock as possible (no bolt-ons) I want to see if I can hit the 14.50 mark. Best so far has been a 14.80 @ 91mph... I hear some folks say they run better in Atlanta, than here at the Jackson Drag-strip (Carolina Dragway)we'll see. The cooler weather is on it's way.

Well I won't see the return on the house for many years, but at least my wife will be happy...
That's worth it's weight in GOLD, cause when supercharger time rolls around again, I won't hear any complaints.

Let me know if you want to come up to Commerce. There will be several non-points races during October and early November before the track closes. I'll be trying to make it to several of those. I've been trying to get to the dyno to chase down a PCM glitch that I think I have.... long story.

Anyhow, this guy has a QuadCab with a 5/6 slam job and a side exit exhaust. I told him about the Mopar Show (this past weekend) but I never saw him there. I think he mey not be much of a track racer kind of guy. He seems more like a car-show/NOPI Nationals/Stereo kind of guy. Just did the KB for the gee-whiz factor. I will try to track him down sometime soon, though.

As for the house.... you'll see the return next year when you've owned a house for a year and taxes are due. You will fill out your 1040 for the IRS, and you will think you've done the math incorrectly. I got back $2600 after owning my condo for a year.......

YOWZA!! That's more than half a Paxton! hahahahah

The reason that I liked the powerdyne was because of the no oil pan tapping but the kennebelle looks very interesting. Would that be hard to install? I have minimal mechanical experience, just changing oil and easy crap like that, in 6k miles I gotta change plugs for that first time. Would I be able to do this myself? Also someone mentioned sending your computer away to be flashed? Sounds nice to have a raised limiter and everything but is that a necesary step? Oh, one last question, does anyone here actually have the Kennebelle on the 4.7 ? thanks

I dont understand the whole point for wanting a supercharger. I would rather, personal opinion I know, have a turbo set up with an intercooler. Man, why would you want something that takes horsepower to make horsepower? Did you know the NHRA funny cars LOSE about 600 to 600 hp in just turning that huge blower? Turbo is the way to go.

Jeeper90....

Turbos are more efficient in my opinion, "BUT", Comparing the two I prefer to have the supercharger. One reason....PRICE. There are no turbo kits on the market for them right now, however you could have someone custom build you one for around oh...5-6 Grand.

The $3,700 tag on the S/C is just more appealing to me.

I do think that it will be quite possible to get a S/C'd truck in the performance range I'm looking at. I want the truck to run in the high to mid 12's at just over or at 105mph... I may have to add cams and intake along with slicks to get there, but it is possible. Just my personal preference...Some want to be 11's-10's9's etc...To each his own. Turbos would probably be better suited for those applications. (and a iron block with forged pistons)

I don't look at it as power lost, but power gained. We have A/C, and power assisted steering, we don't normally complain about the power they rob. We're just glad to have them.

Jon H.- I have the KB on my 4.7. They don't remove the speed limiter. If you go to jeepsunlimited.com, they have an article about the 4.7 kit and you can also download the installation instructions.

For the record, an SC'd 4.7 should be able to turn somewhere around 400hp. The trick is to get the truck up to about 320hp before you put the SC on it. Getting to 320hp will cost you about as much as getting the SC kit, and does not involve nitros.

Thanks for the heads up J, are you satisfied w/it or had any problems?

400 hp is awesome but that is a bit much for me right now. This is my only vehicle so I would like to keep it as maintenance free as possible w/some nice performance.

I'm very satisfied with it. The only problem is some pinging under heavy loads. Octane booster has helped, but has not eliminated the problem. I'm going to try some colder plugs next.
