Polchartude - I wanna apologize for jumping in your stuff and blowing your theory out of the water.
1. U didn't blow anything out of the water(thats funny)
2. What my origional post refers to is not a theory/idea of any sort, It's a race proven fact.
3. I am not Jacque and I also don't believe the piston lappin 429 gains are accurate
4. I believe DD, and if ur not I think one of u wants to be.
5. Lets see ur slip not the one from ur buddies sb nova (maybe u have a scanner)
6. I'm not waiting on customers or on my break I do this full time, Im not a parts monkey or brake and tire (tech) at the local dodge dealer.
7. I'm at my desk writing this watching A CNC mill shave heads in my shop.
8. I'm not a sarcastic weakend warior with a $25k daily driver truck w/ $3k worth of useless bolt on crap ordered through the internet, and thinking I'm the for-most on sspo V8 tuning cause I ru 12's (pathetic)
9. I would have never posted if I didn't think it would help anyone in any way.

Race Proven?

How many race cars have PCV valves or catalytic convertors on them?

Exactly how was this concept/theory/idea/fact proven?

It's obvious we're on opposite sides of the fence on this one. Comparing race engines to emission controlled street driven production engines is pretty much an apples to oranges kinda deal. On our race car we had two 1.5" hoses going back to the breather tank... but that doesn't mean anybody is gonna need or benefit from one on their NA powered Dakota!

I'm not quite sure why every discussion degenerates into name calling and mud slinging whenever people don't agree. I presented my reasoning and tried to illustrate verbally why your idea didn't hold water in this case.

Maybe you should do the same?

Demon,

What does removing the cat do for eliminating the ALLEGED, amounts of crappy, hot air coming out of the crankcase into the combustion chamber? I do understand that in most all cases, it frees up some flow, but it doesn't get rid of the crap from the PCV into the cylinder, does it?

I usually just read this post in my spare time. I thought it would be interesting to comment. what happened was all too preditable. The 429, of course, didn't have any cats behide it. I was trying to show how much crankcase breathers can help. When it was dynoed, valve covers had only a pvc valve in one of them and was not hooked up. 1 crankcase breather was added. 15 hp. 1 more to the other valve cover. 30 total. I only add comments that I know to be true. If no one wants to believe what I have to say that is fine. Just don't get wrapped up into giving a responce. It is not needed. I am trying to add to the input. I can asure you that the guy that I got the info knows a lot more than me. He has been building race engines for 40 years.

Polchartude, I have a question for you. What are your mods? My last Dakota ran a 106 in the quarter that had true dual exhaust. Was relocating the MAT sensor and disgarding the pvc the only things done to compensate for the lean condition that occurs after removing the cat? Based on what I know now as opposed to when I had my 94 Dakota it should be quite a bit faster. I am to find out. Right now, I have found another low mileage 94 Dakota, but it is an extend cab. Never the less, I thought I would experiment a little bit and see how fast it will go before I give it to my dad. I plan to find another regular cab in the future. You can e-mail me at patrickdga@yahoo.com if you want.

Texas Todd,

I see no connection whatsoever between the third cat and the PCV valve. The third cat only burns what ever remaining fuel that makes it past the precats and the regular ignition circuit (as well as the engine emmision controls). The third cat is nothing more than a last ditch effort to get rid of unburnt fuel.

for all those interested...
the 3rd cat is out. there were no problems, even though this topic got wayyyyyy off, but i thought i would let everyone know how it went. very simple. with the flanges in place, its a matter of removing 4 bolts and the straight pipe, then bolting the cat back in (for those of us who have to worry about smog checks, like me) but anyway, as for this whole "recycle unused air blowback intake hose 2% thingie," i sure as hell couldn't find it. cat just looks like a gigantic fishing lure (the hook being the clamp for the rubber dampener thing) but any way.....SOUNDS AWESOME if anyone wants picks of anything, e-mail me.
