Subject: Tune Up Time!! need some advice!

Message:
Well, my truck is at that time now. I just bought some AutoLite 3923s last night at Walmart and im planning on putting them on when i change my oil. I got some questions needing to be answered.

1. Should I use Mobil 1 Synthetic in my truck??.. Walmart has the 5 quart jugg for 17.99... good deal?? Should i get 10w30 or something else??

2. Which Oil Filter do most of u prefer??? that can be bought from an around town store, meaning Amsoil is out.

3. My 4.7L takes 6 qts of oil... Correct??

4. Which plug wires do u prefer with the AutoLite 3923s??

5. I heard of someone on the boards using the new "fram sure drain". Which one will fit my 4.7L??

6. I cant remember if i should use the gaskets that come with the 3923s or re-use the stock ones??.. anyone know for a 4.7L??

thanks in advance

I've learned that if you use synthetic for the first time on a motor with like 70,000 miles or more, it could leak. Also if you switch over to synthetic, you'll want to keep using it, I hear they don't like to mix.

Mobil-1 oil & filter (just my preference)
2002 says to use 5W30

use the supplied gaskets

$17.99 is pretty cheap, you'll need 6 though so buy another quart

Rob, thanks for your help. Yeah i looked at where the plugs are and i thought it looked kind of funny. I have never seen a coil to plug ignition. Thanks for letting me know though... i learn something new about this truck everyday.

Clevite... Well i have 34k miles on my truck. Do u think i will have a problem??... See i have heard the ups and downs of switching to synthetic, so im still not sure if i should go synthetic or not.

thanks for ur help guys.... anyone else??

If you make the switch to synthetic earlier (24k on mine if I switch on my next change, or 34k for Reker) when the day comes you are up in the 75k+ range, would it sitll be likely to have the same leaking problem?

you'll be fine as of now, I don't think you'll have problems in the future regards to leaking, that's a good question though, I would almost be willing to put money on it that you'll be fine.

If that were the case, than these hi-dollar cars that come from the factory would also have problems. But what do I know

Reker, HAVE FUN BRO, just did my thermostat changeout....harder than I thought. Did my oil change using Fram filters and Castrol Oil.

I won't go into the Spark Plug change out but just remember this, BE PATIENT and don't pull or tug on any of those breather tubes along the top of the motor.

Moved my AIT sensor from the Intake to just before the TB mount in the airbox.

Yes on the 6 quarts and I used the "gaskets" that came with my new plugs. No spark plug wires as you have already noticed so be careful when you "pop" those coils out, unplug them first.

Must say that I noticed a serious difference in the peppiness after the plug-change and AIT mod.

Reker where do you live that you got that sale?

My walmart here doesn't even carry the 5 quart jugg, they only have 1 qt bottles and a case of 6-1qt bottles, the 6qt case is 28 bucks tho

Is that NORMAL price or is it on sale?

Izzy, are u talking about those black tubes than run near the plug coils?? Was it farely easy to change out the plugs??.... i was looking at them and it looks like the very first ones on each side will be a little tricky.

Waltherone, i live in Norfolk, Va. And i think the price on the 5qt jugg is the regular price... not sure though.. they could very well be on sale also. They have a TON of them. I have been told that this is a pretty cheap price being that for one qt its like 4.96, and multiply that by 5 and it equals 24.80. Ill prolly end up buying like 2 or 3 of them.. for future oil changes.

Talking tubes that run across the intake from side to side. They are plastic breather tubes that screw into the rear of the heads on each side of the motor and connects to the filter box and break VERY easy. Thank goodness for 2 part epoxy!!!

My WalMart carries the 5 qt jugs also, was a small savings over 5 single quarts.

Thanks everyone for all ur help. I went up to the same AutoZone and looked in the isle, and look what i saw, a fckuing Robert Shaw 180 Tstat... lol.. i was going to say something to the guy who said they dont carry Robert Shaw, but im a better man than that. We all make mistakes... i guess.. But um, i have another question, I have never changed Tranny oil before. How would i do it on my 2000 4x4 Auto??
OH, and help on how to change my gear oil to would be nice. Some brands to use for the gear oil would help. As for the tranny oil, im using Amsoil.

I just might make a seperate post about the tranny/gear oil change. So more people will see it.

thanks
