Message:
i recently replaced the door speakers in my Dakota regular cab, and was interested in replacing my rear speakers with a midbass type speaker - my front speakers have plenty of highs, but not much mid and bass....

i think the rear speakers are 5.25, and i know i wont get much bass out of them, but almost anything would be better than factory -

i would rather not go the route of amplifiers, bass boxes/tubes, etc - i just want to have a balanced sound in the cab....

would this work? i have a pioneer direct replacement cd player with a Front Imaging Enhancement button(i think it works like a crossover - sends highs to the front, lows to the rear)....

any suggestions on a fairly good (meaning adequate bass) midbass speaker?

I have that same head unit, turn that d*%^ FIE off it sounds much better. Get you a set of components for the rear. That should come with a set of mids and a set of tweeters too. mount the mids in the rear and put the tweets wherever you want.

Taki,

Your door speakers, did you replace them with 6.5s? I am going to change my door speakers in a 2001 Quad cab. I bought Polks EX602. I have to attach them to an adaptor plate and then mount them to the door. I'm hoping that the Polks will provide enough bass (91dB efficiency, the higher the number, the louder the speaker will sound with same power). I have Polk RTs as home stereo speakers and they sound incredible (nice bass punch from a small speaker). Does anyone have good tips on removing window cranks off the door? Crutchfield said that even with a tool this removal is difficult. I put in a Sony XR C6100 cassette radio with D bass and it sounds good with the stock speakers. I hoping that the Polks will sound great. Like Taki, I didn't would to mess or expend great funds on amps, subwoofers or enclosures. I'd like to eventually spend it on performance. Thanks in advance.

i have the same head unit also, if you haven't installed it, there is a wire you must tap to bypass the factory amplifier. else you will have no output of sound at all

i installed pioneer ts-a1765 oversize 6.5 speakers (they came with the 3 hole adaptor for Chrysler vehicles)....

they are much better than stock, but not as stunning as i hoped for....i think they would sound better if they werent aimed at the 5 spd. shifter!

got them from www.competitionsound.com for way better than Best Buy or Circuit City....

does anybody think that Dynamat would help get some more bass from my new door speakers? i hear a 4"x4" square placed behind the speaker on the doorskin would be all thats needed to dampen the metal....

Harvey,

I went through getting those window cranks off just last week when I took my stereo out of my '98 to put in my new '01 I ordered. I didn't have any special tools, so I used a fishing hook and a pair of needle nose pliers. Just pull on the handle enough so you can see the clip thing, loop the hook around it, then pull like hell with the pliers. It worked for me. oh, and when you put them back on, put the clip on first, trust me.

You guys are in the wrong forum. Shoulda' went to GENERAL. Some of the guys in the PERFORMANCE section will take the radio and speakers out to make our trucks go faster. Besides, with a fine sounding set of pipes, who needs a radio? :-)

Yeah wayne. I love speakers and what not but that was when I had a jeep wrangler. Now I have the sound of a 318. instead of turning the station i like to downshift and listen to my 318 pop and craclke a little. Now that is Music to My ears.
