Message:
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to degree a cam with the heads and intake on? I've heard that a solid lifter is need to degree the cam correctly. I know we use hydraulic lifters. Any suggestions on this. Also could anyone tell me if a Comps Cam 262HR-12 is degreed -4/+4 degrees off center Vs the stock position?

Thanks.

Do you have a BS, MS or Ph.d degree in camshaft?

What engine are you talking about?

I recently install a new cam, heads, and lifters.

But it doesn't seem to be running just right, I lined up the TDC for piston #1, check the distributor cap rotor for cylinder one and lined up the two dots. I could have sworn that the new cam installed lined up straight up and down lining up the dots without changing anything.

It still seems like its degree is retarded, due to low-end loss and bog, and occasional backfire threw the intake. Could the intake valve be opening too soon?

Anthony, the guy that helped me used a special tool that measured the lift off the lifter on the intake which meant he had the intake off to do it and we didn't have the heads on either. Did you use a degree wheel to find out where you degreed in the cam in at? It seemed the guy that did mine did accurate calculations from the degree wheel and the lifter tool to find out the exact degree to make it. And I have my fuel sync set at +1...heard it runs best at 0 if you can get it there. If your backfiring outta your intake make sure you have the plugs in snug and the right wires going to the right places...I remember getting wires crossed and it backfired through the intake alot.

By the way even if you do end up getting everything correct it will run like sh!t the first few hundred miles.

No, I didn't degree the cam. :( It seems to have stop back firing. Also it does seems to be running somewhat better but still not what I expected.(only 60miles maybe) The idle seems fluctuate when coming to a stop then evens out but still ruff. But it's getting better. So tell me more about this fuel sync stuff. I've notice some bog at 1500-2500 rpms. The engine seems to scream at 3600-redline but under that it's boggy. The cam I a orderd should be good from idle to 5000rpm, but feels like a KRC210 thats from 2000-6000. I hope KRC didn't throw a KRC210 with a KRC206 CAM CARD. No proof, so I'm not saying anything bad about KRC here. They got me my parts.

Its actually more like adjusting the crankshaft sensor by rotating the distributor but there is no way to tell what you have it at unless you have a computer hooked up to your truck to read it. I had a hook up through a buddy so I just took it to a dealership where they did performance work on the side but called it "warranty work" lol.
Mine had a bad bog...but then I realized I forgot to hook up the TV Cable to the TB, once I hooked it back up and adjusted it out a little more so when you mash it, it'll drop down into a gear low enough to get the rpms high enough to let all that air in and out. On KRC's website they do state you have to rev your engine high for the 2.02 head and big cam combo.
But thats a big risk not knowing what your cam is degreed in at. My truck runs pretty good on low in because we advance my timing more at 108.5 degrees rather than 112-114...112-114 means more top end, which U'll already have that w/ your RR setup and your M-1 and big heads, I have the same combo as U do so we decided to degree it in at 108.5 which means U'll have more low end to help w/ the big heads and cam. But hey your truck might end up running good once it learns. I had the same problem at first w/ the idle but it goes away after awhile.
