should I spend 150-200 dollars on a airaid or vortex intake, or should I just make my own? would there be any difference in preformance? or is it just looks?

Well, some people say they liked making there own better, I recently installed an Airaid intake on my 2001 CC 4.7 L,
I noticed an increase in power between 2000-4000 rpm and the sound of engine was much better. I have no regrets in spending the money.

I'm one of the home-brewers and I'm glad I did it.
1) you can custom make it to suit your tastes/needs
2) its a good exuse to drink some beer with a friend or two
3) it sounds just as mean and probably performs better than the ones you can buy
4) its a heck of a lot cheaper
It all depends on what your goal is (mine is lotsa hp for not much $, so the more I can do myself, the better).
PS Make a heat shield no matter what you do
