OK, I have read enough to know where I want to start with the mods to my truck.
I have a 97, 2wd, 3.9, auto.
Question?
What V8 engine can I pull a TB off of for my 3.9?
Whose Exaust is the best and What size to give better breathing with a single exaust, I do not want to go Dual?
If I route outside air directly to my airbox is it REALLY Necessary to go with an aftermarket intake if I have a K&N drop in filter?
Lastly, my truck runs at just a smidge over 200 degrees, what temp stat should I put in and WHY?

TB:
No budget - F&B 48mm TB
Budget - 97 or newer TB from a 5.2/5.9L.
Don't forget to buy a V8 throttle cable and a new gasket.
Exhaust:
No budget - Go with a catback system either 2.5/3" in diameter that sounds the best to you.
Budget - Just replace the OEM muffler with a free flowing one.
Air intake:
My opinion would be to go to a conical air filter which is less restrictive than the drop in.
No budget - K&N FIPK, but be prepared to call K&N to replace your intake tube for free (prone to cracking at the base).
Budget - Intense Performance or build your own.
Tstat:
180 degree Tstat. The Magnum engines respond well to them.
