Subject: K.B. or N.O.S.?

I`ve got an `02 QC AWD SLT 4.7 auto.
What I was planning to do was put the Kenne Bell supercharger kit on it, but after reading about the newer nitrous kits they have out now , I`m not so sure. I`ve always been leery of the N.O.S. kits before , because of the horror stories out there, but it looks like if you stay with-in say 100hp or less everything should stay together.
From what I can tell is this...

I can expect the same HP #s with spray for 1/4 of the price of the K.B. charger.
I have the ability to turn it off , and only use it when I want to , so my gas milage should not suffer.
It is alot easier to install , and remove (if soo desired) if I sell the truck or GOD forbid I need to take it in for warranty work.

Let me have some opinions, money is not a big factor , it makes a difference for sure , but it`ll just mean I`ll have to save my pennies a little longer to go with the K.B.

I can only comment on the Kenne Bell since I don't really know much about the NOS stuff.

I absolutely love my KB SC on the 4.7L. No tuning issues at all. Slap in on and forget about it, untill you change the oil in the unit every 12,000 mi. Even that's easy to do. It's located on top of the blower so there's no crawling around underneath the truck or anything like that.
Had it on for almost 2 years now with around 18,000 mi. on it and no prob. at all.

Your gas mileage will stay the same as long as you drive "normal" and don't see boost. The boost only comes on under heavy accelation. So it's there when you need and want it, and not when you don't. You will have to run premium gas all the time with the SC though, so that's something to consider.

The install will involve more, but if I can do it, anyone can. I even did it with no pictures or handwritten instructions. I was one of the first to have one and the instruction manual hadn't made it to the printers yet.

I don't know at this point where Dunner or speedtweaks are at, in regards to their turbo setup, but that's another option,

well it depends on what you want, I like constant power myself, if for some reason, you imedatly have to speed up, are you going to have time to open the vale and hit the button?

I don't have a problem with nitrous, from what I've learned if it's done right it's good for the motor, in some cases. but like I said I like constant power. If you are just planning drag racing, go nitrous, but if you want more power while daily driving, go s/c or turbo

Good point about the system having to be "armed" and ready to use. I thought you could leave it on all the time and activate it with the throttle at WOT.
Signman, even if you don`t have hard #s , what do you think the K.B. did for your 0-60and 1/4 mile times?
I`m not wanting to make a racetruck or anything, I just want something that can smoke most stock veh. from a stop to say 60-70mph if I want to.

Mainly the stangs and ricers...I`d love to see the look on their face after being cooked by a 4WD truck! Espscially when they pull up at the next light and take off like a bat out of hell and then I`ll just putter away like and old fart.

Until the next light! Then they`d get another a$$ whoppin!

I would guess that the SC will take 1.0-1.5 sec off your 1/4 mile times. I'm not really sure about 0-60, but they will improve dramatically. If your looking for something to have fun with on the street on a daily basis then I think the KB SC is definately the way to go. Full 6lbs of boost available from 2,000 RPM's up! Really helps in getting these heavy trucks rolling quick! With 0-60 or 70 MPH blasts on the street, nothing else will compare.

Listen to you freaks hypothesizing on subjects of which you have no CLUE !!!!
I suggest you rent a movie called "The Fast and the Furious", with the exception of the motorcycle chase scene(s), it is completely NON FICTION !!!
That movie is based on real life events! I dont like NAWZZZZ, but I do like TURBOS!
That movie has plenty of turbo action, yes!
All I know about NAWZZZ is that the amount of HP is dependant on the bottle size!! The bigger the bottle, the faster the car!
I have a friend that owns one of Ford Motor Companies finest products, besides my 1995 Muzstang GT Convertible, the Ford Ranger XLT.
He purchased and open bed trailer at Home Depot and installed an old 700 Gallon propane tank on the deck of the trailer. With the tank securely mounted and painted blue, he has a special braided hose made that will withstand the pressure of the NAWZZZ. He hooked up the NAWZZZ on his 1999 Ford Ranger XLT and towed the big bottle around on the trailer.
We went to the street races one night and reigned supreme! NO ONE WOULD TRY US! Talk about intimidation! 8 second cars were backpeddling so much, you would have though it was a new dance craze! We were so fast and intimidating, street racers scattered like they saw 5 oh when we approached!!
We reign supreme with 2 of Ford Motor Companies finest products! We may take our show on the road, so watch out! NAWZZZ baby!

Scott- I will most likely be getting a nitrous kit within the next month but I am still debating on how to mount it and if there is an easier way to get the power I want from my truck.

right now I'm debating between an edelbrock nitrous kit modified to my specks, or a set of 4.10 gears to replace my 3.55 pegleg rearend

Conig, I changed out the 3.92 gears in the R/T to 4.56's and loved it. If you don't do alot of highway driving you might consider going that route. 4.56's and some sort of locker or anti-slip and you'll be cooking. It's all about torque multiplication! I mean if you want to be a bear....be a Grizzly!!LOL Just a thought.

Well ,after much research and some help here, I guess I`m sold on the K.B.

Now my other dilema..I want to go with a new set of shoes for the QC.I`m really wanting to go with the chrome R/T wheels , as my truck is all black and chrome, with the exception of my 16in silver wheels. If I go with a different design , I`ll probably go with 18s and a set of the new Nitto All terrain type tires (remember I have a 4WD).

So now my question...and I know it`s up to me in the end...do I go with the wheels and tires first or the S.C.?
I realize I`m asking this on the performance board, so go easy on me.

Your truck is still pretty new and you should still have plenty of wear left on the stock tires. I say get the Supercharger first. You'll enjoy it more on a daily basis that's for sure!!! Put a smile on your face everyday you feel the boost. Mine still does after allmost 2 years.
Now if your tires are needin replacing, then you better spend the money on that first. Just my opinion though. Like you said it's your call.

signman. thats almost exactly what I what a I was thinking. If somehow I could get the transmichine I have now updated to the 5speed auto I would get some 4.30 or 4.56 gears based on my mods and duners past times I think I would be able to get a low 14's with 4.10's
