Subject: 4.10's vs 3.91's
IP: Logged

Message:
I have 3.91 gears (not installed), but was
wondering if I should try the 4.10's instead?
right now I have the stock 3.55 and I was
wondering approx what the diff in RPM's
would be? (stock wheels and tires) I do a lot
of street and freeway driving, and dont want it
to be overeving while cruising at 80, will the
4.10's be okay?

thanx for any info!

4.10s may be a little much. Mine revs about 2700 at 80mph if I remember correct.

If you already have the 3.91's use them , the difference between 3.91's and 4.10's is so small you won't notice it. I popped the sure grip and wiped out the ring and pinion a few years ago in my Valiant with 3.91's and replaced it with another chunk with 4.10's and it ran the same #'s at the track , only difference is that hwy rpm's picked up about 150rpm or so.

Kinda depends on what you are going for in the end. There is a difference between the 4.10 and the 3.92, but hardly noticable. About 150RPM like moparjoe said, but they will also make you rev up through the RPMs a little faster, and help low end torque a little. Unless you can do an even trade on the gears before you install them, not really worht it. If you are worried more about gas mileage than performance, stick with the 3.92's. They will suck enough gas as it is.

4.10's will hurt top end put will make takeing off with a heavy load easier. If you are going to be turning big tire or do alot of rock crawling the 4.10 are ideal. If you are not going do any of the above you should just stick with 3.92:1.

thanx guys, I think the 3.92's will be fine. a
guy at the track Thursday night had a 318 with
4.10's and limited slip, and he ran the same
time as me, (+/- 1/10th). His motor had some
work, headers, exhaust, mopar cams, throttle
body, and mopar chip, so I was pretty
impressed with how mine held up. Hopefully
once I get the gears and LS in place I should
drop some better times.

Horbedarn: I would check with
http://www.4wheelparts.com:80/ or call them.
They had the best price I could find on gears.

i just got the 4.10's and there sick, the accel is way better than the 3.55's, the gas milage is a little worse only at highway speeds but it doesnt bother me. the top end is actually better, it pulls way harder from 70 and up and at still hits 115mph, and the bottom end is much better. in my opinion you should get the 4.10's

Hey EyeTrip, if you have stock gears, you actually have 3.92's.
