Well, I finally got it. Drove down to Buffalo
yesterday and picked up a 360. It's a complete 98
with 60,000 miles on it. I'm going to have some
fun with this thing, I bought some books on how to
mod up a mopar engine. It's going to take some
time, especially after seeing the spectacular job
that Intense99 Chuck did detailing his. I'm
inspired!!
One thing I have to mention ... reading earlier
posts about mileage - I put $30 Canadian in gas on
top of 1/4 tank and another $20 on the trip back.
Even with that big-ass engine in the back I still
have almost half a tank left.

I'm thinking this may have had something to do with it.

btw... sorry Lesley, I really didn't mean to change your post's subject. How much power do you think you'll make?

I can sure sympathize! I only had my truck a couple of months when someone scratched "Steve" inside a heart on the front right fender.
Dunno yet how much power I'll have. I want to get headers, a cam, not sure what else. It'll take a while cuz I'm broke now :)

My truck was vandalized by a couple of kids throwing rocks the size of baseballs two weeks ago. Lucky for me someone caught them and I only have two huge chunks out of my paint. It could've been worse. What's up with kids these days? They aren't accountable for their actions and neither are their parents. So it's out of my pocket. It makes me fume just thinking about it!

Cheers!

with my temper, and not really having a conscience sheesh, I'd be on death row for what I'd do to someone if I caught them tampering with my truck. It's mine, I paid for it, if you want to vandalize something vandalize your own property. Oh well you can't cry over spilled milk, it only leads to unwanted anger and stress, it's what you do in the future that matters.

has anyone tried GS-27 or any other tips. I'll probably have to visit my buddy in PA that owns a paint shop

I know what cha mean Lesley, The guy's going to sell me the 5.9L in September and I have to start saving. I don't know if I wanna go all out or just rebuild and sell it. I get free engine kits and here at work they send us to class and we can rebuild our own stuff so it'll be cheap if not free for me so I'm lucky there.

I just bought a sand blater Friday so now all I need to do is order the powder coating kit and I can make it look sweet too.

It sounds like we're of the same mind on that - I am going to keep this thing for a while and may or may not put it in my truck. I know that I want to mod it up and work on it, such a great learning experience. But my truck runs sooo good right now and is so good on gas, it would be a tough decision to make.

Lesley...I have tne 5.9 modded out pretty much everyway N/A except pistons and making it carburated and that engine stock drinks so much gas you can't even imagine how much it guzzles w/ a big cam and heads. Hope you have a well paying job and not many bills cuz your gas bill will definatley be high. Still the power alone is worth the gas bills though...the look on those Mustang and Camaro's guys faces are priceless. :)

Oy! That is pretty much what I figured. I would love a nice lopey cam, Comp or Edelbrock, and I looooove the sound of a muscle engine, you know, when it gets you right in the solar plexus. I have a good job, but I sure don't make wads of money. The good thing is that the truck is paid for.
I got a good deal on the motor, so I could even sell it when I'm done (hmmm - like THAT is going to happen)

Yeah I'm surprised at how many compliments I've gotten on it...I mean people that U wouldn't even think that likes anything to do w/ racing has been saying it sounds great and they wanna trade in their car to get one. I hang out w/ alot of muscle car guys and they say it sounds sweet, for a truck anyways, haha. It's like it lets me relive what it was like to live in the muscle car era. While you have the engine out save up some money and stroke it 30 or 40 over (since its got fairly high miles), put a nice cam, heads, all the goodies. Cuz trust me it'll be worth it in the longrun.

Although its kinda hard to tell you have a cam unless you open up the exhaust...like say true duals w/ 3" pipe from the headers back w/ no cats. ;) It scares people at the grocery store on startup. hehe

Lesley,

That's some kind of toy. Are you going to total rebuild and blueprint the engine or just mod it up? What about the tranny? I think I'm jealous. Good luck.

Yeah, there is something about the sound of a muscle car, I've loved them as long as I can remember. There are so many of them in my town and shows every weekend. I love talking to the owners and hearing the stories of how they found some one-in-a-million part in an obscure place. I take lots of pictures and do a write up for the paper I work for (what a job huh?)
It's really intimidating to look at the damn thing now that I've got it, because it is just so huge, and it has EVERYTHING on it, including air and plug wires. Once I've cleaned it, taken some of the stuff off it, and gotten the manual I ordered (How to mod a small block Mopar) it may look a little less daunting :)

No trouble really. I was sweating bullets, because it was half crated, wrapped in 3 layers of tarp with duct tape wound around it, and shimmed at the front and back with a couple of skids. They didn't even unwrap it! I did have to pay $115 Canadian duty on it. I was really worried that they would ask me for exportation papers, or question the receipt I had, but they didn't.

Lesley , My tip to you is run down to you're local dealer and pick up the Magnum engine book - 2nd issue and also pick up the Mopar Street Truck book , it has lots of useful info about Dakotas and Magnum engines. The How to mod a small block Mopar book was written about 25 years ago and lots of the information on other things beside the shortblock don't apply to Magnum engines.
