Duner is the point man for the 4.7's. But if you
look at dragtruck.com you go from Duner to a
mid 14's for the next 4.7. There are a whole lot
of R/T's better than that.

DragTruk Averages by Engine?

It won't be too long before you start seeing more
4.7s climbing the ranks on DragTruk.com. The
design of the 360 engine has been around for a
very long time - giving the aftermarket lots of
time to develop mods for them. The 4.7s have been
out about 1/10th as long.... so it might take at
least a little while for the aftermarket to catch
up with it.

Now the next questions would be:
How many Dakota R/Ts are there vs the number of
4.7 powered Dakotas? From those numbers - how
many go to the track and have any timeslips to
post?

Since there are so few 4.7s listed compared to the
5.9s..... I wonder what happens if you average the
times posted in Dragtruk for each engine?

Dakota R/T (5.9) avg time = 14.61

Dakota Sport 4.7 avg time = 14.34

Obviously the average times for the 4.7s is
radically skewed because of the times I posted for
my truck..... but in this case the lack of other
4.7s on the results list actually helps! hahahah

Duner this, Duner that. Duner must be an idiot if he has a 4.7 motor instead of the tried and true 5.9 motor. The 5.9 is the ONLY way to go. I don't know what all you guys are hoping to prove by getting your names on that dragtruck thing. Racing is stupid anyway. My 5.9 is the best and I dont care what the rest of you idiots think. Torque is just jealous of our 4.7, because he just came to realize that our 4.7 is better than his 5.9. To each his own, with being listed on dragtruck or racing for that matter. You probably think racing is stupid b/c whenever you try to run against a 4.7 you always get your a@# handed to you. I know, why don't you and duner meet up at the track and prove who's boss. I wonder how many times he'll have to smoke your a@# before you give up and say, "Damn that 4.7 rocks, wish I had one."

Knock this knock that.....Dangit grow up.

Both are very good motors. The 360 is known for its stump yankin torque, and years of proven reliability.
The 4.7 is the new kid, but has already proven to be a performer.The aftermarket is growing, and will continue to do so.

I currently have the reg. cab 4.7 5-spd. It runs 14.80's@90mph. This is with a flowmaster muffler, and Lakewood traction bars. I have raced some of my R/T buddies, and come out on top, and others have spanked my fanny. They seem to be pretty much tit for tat stock, then when you start slapping intakes, cams, heads etc... of course the R/T brings home the bacon.

I never have understood why there has always been an arguement when the 4.7 & 360 are compared. Both are good performing DODGE motors...There should be tech questions, about how to get either to spank Lightnings, and such....

I just purchased a Paxton NOVI-1000 for the Dakota, hopefully it will give me the go-go to get out in front of the "L".

It's all preference. If you want a 360 or a 287, do the research, and you'll find that both are good powerplants. One has just been out longer than the other.

Let's worry about spanking the GT's, Z's, T/A's, and all the rice, before trying to spank our own kind.

Torque is nice--- but it can't always get the job done...

Take my '71 Satellite Copcar clone... 383, 325 hp...4xx torque... Can't get out of it's own way... Got beat by a Crown Vic this morning street light to street light... It'll cruise at 85-90 all day long though...

Guess the 2.45 ratio rear end is the problem, ya think? :P

idiot, you are entitled to your opinions. I
disagree with you that the 5.9 is the ONLY way to
go - but I think you know that. You say that
racing is stupid, but isn't competition what life
is all about? I can understand why you wouldn't
like it since you obviously can't compete!

As for DragTruk - the ranking system is in place
because it's impossible for everyone to race
against each other in person. I don't see your
name on there anywhere.

I think we pretty much know where you reside in
the food chain. Bottom feeders always resort to
name calling when they run out of intelligence.
Torque sometimes does rule, but the 5.9 isn't the
only engine that produces any. And speaking of
torque.... you better release that tourniquet
that's around your neck. I think the lack of
blood flow is beginning to interrupt your brain
functions! hahaha

Mike D - I'd LOVE to race the Twin Turbo R/T! I
think I'll start an email campaign to try and
convince the owner to come out here for the
Truckin' Nationals!

How fast did the Twin-Turbo R/T go?

I also fully realize that whatever time it got the first time to the track.... it will only improve from there with more tuning and tweaking as well as driver technique that will have to be learned to take advantage of the new system.
