 Subject: To Flash, or not to Flash?

I have a 98 5.2L. I am looking to purchase the Mopar Performance PCM. Some people have said that a "flash" from the dealer costs upwards of $100 for the VIN and mileage. Others say not to if you can deal with a few lights on the dash continually lit. When I asked the parts guy about this PCM, his words were "as soon as you put that PCM on your truck, your warranty is absolutely void". I think this is bullsh*t and was wondering if the reason they want to "flash" it is to prove that it's installed on my truck. What's the straight scoop here?
