No, you do not need to do anything to the computer to add the t-stat.

Whoever told you that needs to shut up and look dumb rather then open their mouth and remove all doubt.

You can change out your stat without any other modification. Just stay away from the 160, it may mess with your pcm but not the 180.

Yes I am, about 240 miles south.

North Houston

I would like to try out that track in Ennis sometime. Maybe you guys could host a BBQ for us Houston guys. We just had one a few weeks ago with 10 or so R/Ts. Made for a cool caravan going down the highway.

Probably not, I just went to the track last night and got my weekly fix of truck stuff. But we should try and get together. There are several R/Ts in your area that I talk to on the delphiforum. You should go on there and introduce yourself if you haven't already.

It's a 50% / 50% shot of popping a code and not running right. We just installed a M1 and 160stat on a very lightly modified R/T and he has not had any problems since. But the PCM likes to see a bit higher temps for proper combustion I think.

Robert Shaw brand...

You can order it from speedtweaks. I think AutoZone carries them as well.

Or you can go with Stantz brand. You can find these just about anywhere.

Thanks I will get one on my next dayz off. The bone head told me that a stat with the factory computer would not work properly due to the fuel scheduling at start up and because the computer would sense the engine running colder(due to the lower stat temp) and throw more fuel on.I wasn't to trustworthy of him..Strange cause the guys normally try to sell you anything..

Also would a K&N FIPK and a Flowmaster exhaust make my truck harder on gas or easier??

Well, since your horsepower is slightly increased with the addition of the inyake and the exhaust, your gas mileage takes a hit because more HP requires more gas. I would say that you have lost maybe 1 MPG by adding the intake and exhaust.

Cool, thanks man!! How much of an increase of horse power do you think is gained by those mods?

Also, how much of an increase will I get with the stat and a computer?

With the intake and exhaust...maybe 5-10.

With the addition of a computer...another 5-10

Wouldn't adding an intake and exhaust increase your fuel economy because they help your engine breathe better? After many of the engine mods I always understood it came down to how heavy your foot was.

Well, it does sometimes, but before I added just an intake and exhaust (a long time ago...hehe) I noticed a slight decrease. But I guess not all engines are the same. It is possible to gain some MPG, but maybe 1 or 2 at the most. Sorry, I shoulda said that before.

I was about to be completely confused. I did gain about 2mpg on the highway with my fastman 68mmTB and 360airintakez. I'm about to put on a carsound cat and a freeflowing muffler. Maybe I'll pick up another mpg or so if i'm lucky.
