Subject: Which intake system?

I have seen a round open air filter with a filter top on it. http://intenseperformance.com/products/products.html
My question is, it seems that it would allow more air in than the K&N Gen II unit that replaces the stock air box. The downside is that it would pull hotter air into the unit. Will the increased air flow make up for it? Any one tried it.

Definitely go with the Gen II. It has a heat shield that goes with it.

I have a 2000 5.9L Quad Cab,Friday I installed a Stage III Intense Performance intake. It is a real nice unit,I am very pleased with it. I also installed a H.P. Mopar PCM and the Flometrics T.B.That really made a big difference. It is alot better off the line, and from 3000 RPM`s and above really pulls strong, especially considering the weight.I still have the stock exhaust and have not put the Autolites in yet, should improve even more,I almost forgot, I put the 180 therm.in, Iam looking at a Cat back system from Magna Flow, not certain on it yet,not much info on it.

The problem with the Intense Performance system is it doesn't replace your airhat. That's your first place of restriction before you even get into your TB.

I am in the Texas Gulf Coast area about 50 miles west of Houston. You are correct about the hat,but this was the only system I could find that was heat sheilded and would fit. The K&N will not fit because of the cruise control cable. This system has a bracket that moves the cable up and out of the way.The canister is ceramic coated and has a hose that connects to a plate that mounts over the fender weld opening. All you pull in is air from outside the motor area while moving, while sitting still you will pull in hot air from the radiator, but it should not hurt anything.Probably I could benefit from the IAT Adjuster because it will not be long before the outside air down here becomes very warm and very humid.

You're absolutely right about the cruise control. I had to move mine around to where the TCM would go on a 4.7 auto setup. Then I had to drill a hole in the heat shield so the cables wouldn't bind up. Works great. Good thing someone else went through this before me. Made mine a lot easier to fabricate.

Thanks for the info on the Stage 3. I think this would be the system I wuold use for it should not be any louder than stock but have much better air flow, can always change the airhat later.

K&N has proven that there system offers zero resistance or very close to it. So that means that this is the best air induction that you can get. The only way to beat the k&n is to supercharge.
