I just got back from Carlisle Chrysler Nationals. I pulled the dyno in the Mopar Muscle dyno shootout. This time I removed my Clutch fan and used a short belt to bypass the alternator and the Power Steering pump. My new peak numbers are as follows:

238 RWHP @ 4400
304 RWTQ @ 3600

Using a 15% drivetrain loss this equals
280 Crankshaft HP
350 Crankshaft TQ

This is a peak increase of 8 HP and 14 Ft lbs TQ
And a Max increase of 14 HP @ 4200 and 18 Ft. Lbs TQ @ 3200.
just from removing the fan and using the short belt.

I have a .xls spreadsheet available comparing my stock engine vs. current engine with and without the fan removed and short belt, if anyone would like to see it. The peak numbers don't do justice to what is actually gained over stock.

Hey Matt,

Your math is a bit off, you added to your RWTQ instead of subtracting it from your crank, Like you did with the HP.
You actually have 357.65 TQ at the crank.

I noticed you posted above you now run a shorter belt, This wouldn't be real world numbers. why didn't you leave the belt on like you would drive it?

I'm interested in the spread sheet

You're correct on my math. The 15% loss was for the HP. I just estimated the TQ @ the crankshaft. I've always been told the 15% loss is not the same for the TQ reading?? Whatever it is, the rear wheel numbers are correct. The Crank numbers are just my assumptions. There is no exact science to figuring crank numbers from rear wheel readings.

I was running slicks when I drag raced at the strip , but I can't run them on the street in the real world, is that any different?? When I'm racing on the strip or pulling the dyno I'm going for maximum power. If it makes more power with the steering wheel removed, I'll remove it :)!!

PUSHRODS = TORQUE
IP: Logged

Message:
If you guys had real trucks you wouldn't need to get a dyno run. I can feel the awesome torque from my 360 cubic inch engine from the very second I hit the starter switch. Real trucks don't need dyno numbers because they already have more torque. I thought about getting a dyno run with my truck but I'm afraid I would break the dyno with too much of my torque. You should only tell us about the real world numbers because the other world numbers make it sound like you are starting to make too much torque. If you don't have any pushrods then you can't have any torque. Did you add some pushrods to your engine and not tell anybody? My truck has torque because it came with pushrods from the factory. TORQUE RULES!

Can I just pour those pushrods into the oil filler tube?? I'm sure they'll just settle into the bottom of the oil pan and won't hurt a thing.
Probably add like 50 ft lbs per pushrod. I'll just try one to begin with.

Dude, the 4.7 is so advanced, we dont need pushrods. We don't even need connecting rods. All the pistons and rockers & stuff are just suspended in this thick viscous gooey horsepower fluid. When you mash on the pedal, there is no torque, just a whole lot of rpms. And the whole thing is held together with O-rings.

It's like a Wankel, but different.

No, if YOU were to get a real truck, a truck with torque, you woulda gotten a diesel instead of that measly-old 5.9. ;)

True ! The most powerful vehicle that pulled @ Carlisle this weekend was a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Turbo Deisel. This guy was pushing 60 lbs of boost, and it was Nitrous AND Propane injected!
This truck pulled 760 Hp, and and estimated 2000 ft lbs TQ !!!! Bawwaa haaa.. OH MY
The Dyno jet machine only goes up to 1200 ft lbs TQ, and he burried that off of idle. The guy running the machine estimated over 2000 ft lbs.
The truck runs 12.2's @ 120 mph, weighs 7500 lbs!
BY FAR, the most powerful vehicle there. I saw some nasty Blown Hemi cars up there on Saturday that pulled LESS than 500 HP !!!
If that truck does'nt make the pages of Mopar Muscle Mag, NOTHING deserves to!

Go to Diesel Dynamics and look at some of these movies if you watn torque with NO revs....

www.diesel dynamics.com and then go to the videos section....

Here's one for starters:

http://www.dieseldynamics.com/videos/1372vs-viper.mpg

When you see some of the guys running 10-sec 1/4 miles times, that's because the black smoke messes up the timing lights. But there are guys running in the low 12's in 8000 lb trucks.....
