do the 318 and 360 use the same head gaskets? i have been told the felpro 1008's are the one's, but the 318 has a smaller bore, so will they still work?

also, i went to autozone and asked for head gaskets and they had the felpro's, but not the 1008's and they were $15 each. WTF? can some one shed some light on this for me?

Eric,

The head gaskets are different for each. I don't have a part # for you, but I did some checking and they are two different gaskets. (This is the information I was give by a parts store from the Portland, OR area)

If you think that the gasket for the 5.2L (318) was bad on price you should check 5.9L (360) price.

Hope this helps.

Found the 1008s at Summit and Jeg's, about $32 each but the listing only goes to 1989. Seems the ones at A/Zone and O'Reilly's are some economy version, Summit and Jeg's don't even list 'em. Can't find anything at the Federal Mogul website. What a mess.

Everyone shows the same part number for both engines, I would have to say yes.

Eric,

It appears that I was in error with the information I was give at first.
The Felpro brand is the same for both engines and the Autozone kit # , '94-'96, is HS9898TT-1 and sells for $64.99. That is for the head gasket set (intak, valve covers, etc..).

So on that note I stand corrected!

I had a hard time finding answers to this topic as well but this is what I found out:
FelPro's 1008's were originally designed for the LA blocks (pre-Magnums) but do fit the Magnum engines. Some people say they are a superior gasket to the stock head gasket.
The stock head gasket is FelPro's 9898PT, also known as Mopar Performance part #P4876048. Here's a Item Description from MP "Thick, 0.040 to 0.042 composition head gaskets that can be used for replacement or competition applications up to 12.5:1 compression ratio."
I compared these two gaskets visualy (didn't do any scientific research) and they are identical, both have the blue "Permatorque" feature, but the 9898PT's do have the push rod "guides" and look like a better "fit" on the block. I paid 30 bux from discountautoparts.com for a set. My dealer wanted more for the "Mopar Performance" set and it was on back order. DAP had it in stock.
Hope this helps,
James
