What all can I do to freshen up my stock 4.7L motor? Someone had suggested replacing my cam. If I was to go the cam replacement route, what else would I need to replace besides the cam?

Cam bearings?
Pushrods?
Lifters?

I am running a stock 4.7L in a 2000 club cab with 31x10.50x15's.

You might want to read around on the sight before asking this question.
1) Both of ours motors have (2) cams. They are located in each head respectively.
2) NO PUSHRODS!
3) The HO cams & intake from a factory HO Jeep 4.7L are a great upgrade & a planned one in the future for me.

P.S. Hope you don't get flamed too bad for your lack of knowledge:)

HAHAHAHAH Jackass!!!

Just Kidding...If your motor is stock don't start with cams or a manifold. Start with some simple stuff. I have a '00 4.7L CC 2wd and so far I have:
180 T-stat
3923 Autolite plugs
360intakez
Fastman 68mm TB.

My MPG's have improved by about 2 and my throttle response is awesome. The t-stat and plugs have made my engine accelerate smoother (though not faster). I'm probably going to upgrade my exhaust soon with ? muffler and a carsound cat.

I would do what most people have
recomended for the 2000 4.7's, and that is
send it to mike leach for a custom flash. get
all the minor bolt ons, intake, exhaust and 180
stat. you should be set after that, and ready
for a supercharger. cams and intake manifold
are a great mod, for people like me that have
a 2001. cause for us, there is no custom
flash (as of yet)

but, if you have the time, and the skills, install
the HO cams and manifold.

HO cams, manifold, LS+3.92's are still
collecting dust ; (

Hey D,

If I can get my 2002 flashed how come you can't get your 2001 flashed?????????? Mike Leach has stopped, don't know why, but Kenne Bell is still going strong on custom flashes.
Izzy,
We are petitioning a couple of performance parts company's to build some cams and Intakes right now. The best upgrade and simplest is a custom flash, Kenne Bell does these for around $350. Thats what I'de do first.

Or you could wait on the Hyperspeed controller through speedtweaks. This won't do anything for speed limiters but its supposed to work real well. Gave Bernd something like 19 rwhp. It's going to be programmable to I think.

Yea, it is a stock '00 4.7L and I forgot to mention that I do already have dual exhaust. I noticed the difference pulling out of the muffler place.......so did the mechanic and half the businesses in the area :-)

I just do not have the pickup I used to have, theres not much of a tire bark if I lay into it from a dead start. I realize I am gonna lose some power due to normal and abnormal wear and tear over the years (bought it in Sept '99) but I would expect to at least be able to get better gas mileage than I am getting. I drive roughly 80 miles to & from work a day down I-95 and am getting roughly 13-15 mpg.

I keep up on my oil/trans.fluid & filter changes and air filter changes.

I am guessing by what I have read here that I should refer to a 4.7L Jeep manual for info on my 4.7L motor? I have been waiting for Hayne's to release a 2000 Dakota manual for quite some time now.

I see where some of you guys are starting to mod your motors, where should I look for aftermarket parts? I actually stopped looking about 1 1/2 years back.

.......and thanks for all you guys input and help!

I'd start with a cold air intake, larger bore throttle body and maybe a throttle body spacer. The cold air intake and throttle body made a huge difference on my 4.7 in my 00 jeep. It gave me better mpg's and the exhaust more of a deep tone too. I just got new ho cam's, head job and solid lash adjusters. Haven't got the jeep back together, but will post dyno results here in a week or two. Also it has stock 3.92 gears and locker but I'm going to 4.88 gears when I put some 33" tires on it.
