I recently changed the carrier bearing on my 93 Dakota CC 2wd. Now I have a VERY bad vibration and whining that starts at 30 mph, peaks at 35, and fades out completely after 38. Everything came apart as expected, but when I was putting the driveshaft together, it was like the male driveshaft was too big. The splines would line up, but I had to pound the two shafts together and again to stretch the tight driveshaft so I could bolt it to the pumpkin.

Anybody have any tips or ideas. The driveshaft isnt bent or dented or anything from all my beating and all the ujoints are new. The only thing I can think of is the new carrier bearing doesnt turn as freely as I think it should (feels like it is too tight) and the tight driveshaft joint.

Please help me!

Mike S.

May be time to look up a local driveline specialist and ask them that same question.

I've never tried to disassemble the two halves before......

was there a locating spline(most times there is one spline that is bigger, which lines up with a corresponding notch in the female half)

Sounds like your driveshaft isn't balanced right... if you didn't line the two halves up like they were before, you probally don't have it perfectly balanced. Like someone said, take it to a driveshaft specialist. Otherwise you'll be replacing those U-joints real soon, and possibly the tranny.

Yes there was a locator spline. I lined those up but it was still a bear putting the two drive shafts together.

I'll take things apart again tonight, and if I can't figure it out, I'm afraid I'll have to take it to a shop to balance. GRRRR- never any rest.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
