I just purchased the Gibson cat back system for my 02 DQC 4.7. All of the companies say that there muffler is better for one reason or another. I researched a bit and heard some good things about the Gibson. Besides everyone has Flowmaster. I wanted to try something different. As far as decible level, changing the stock muffler is only going to make it louder. If you want it quiet I would think twice about swapping it out.

Spintech (www.spintechmufflers.com). Unique sound....different models available to fit your needs. I have a sport truck model muffler on my 4.7 Durango. www.blackdakrt.com has some mpegs of some R/T's with spintechs, flows, and gibson's. Take your time..do some research!
Wouldn't a Ram with a 5.9 sound alot like your R/T?!?!?!

I haven't changed mine out yet, but I've read untold countless hundreds of posts on exhaust systems, and the impression that I get is that most folks think Flowmaster is cheesy, while Magnaflow and MBRP get the nod for quality. Dynomax appears to be a decent compromise for less money.

O.K. I have heard all the mufflers now on the R/T, well several of them for that matter. We recently had a little meet with 10 or so Dakotas, and they all had aftermarket exhaust.

The spintech is loud, but a lot of guys like it.
Flowmaster sounds good, so long as your not the driver. I have a Magnaflow (used to have a flowmaster) and I like it. The flowmaster (50 series SUV) did nothing to improve my performance, I think it actually hurt it. Besides it got real old listening to the wooshing and drooning sound all the time.

Make sure you want loud before you get loud.

I went with the Gibson Dual Sport. General consensus I heard was that Flowmaster resonates in the cab too much-had the same problem when I ran 'em on my GTO. It's a little noisy when I'm in the throttle but at 65-70 MPH you can hardly hear it.

If I had it to do over again, I would pay for the Magnaflow system. DynoMax was half the price, but didn't fit worth a crap. I had to alter the hangers and the cat to muffler pipe length for it to fit. Besides, your RT came with a DynoMax Super Turbo... so you definitely don't want to go this route. I've not read one person that wasn't happy (here or on LS1.com) with their MagnaFlow system.

Want louder bypass, remove or replace the cat(s). That helped me out A LOT.

I didn't think my MBRP sounded that mean and loud untill someone else was driving it and I heard it then. Kinda weird, but it seems the MBRP is real quiet inside the cabin. They have to be one of the deepest and smooth sounding exhuasts out there, but I was looking for a little louder, which I might dump the exhaust to the side to see if it makes any difference.

Just sit back and listen, the gains are minimal, so get what sounds good to you.

R/Truck,
I had replaced my stock muffler with a Flowmaster (942552) 50 series on my '01 4.7 QC.. It was very frustrating getting blown away by mini vans on the grades on my vacation last week. I had to kick the auto trans to a screaming rev to get it to get out of its own way. I love my truck, but am very disappointed with the lack of power.I think the loss of low end power is due to the flowmaster. I was thinking of loosing the Flowmaster and installing a Magnaflow. Did you have any improved performance changing to the Magnaflow? I agree with wooshing and drooning sound all the time. It gets old.
TIA,
Roger

I was going to go with the Gibson Swept Back until I went to thier web-site and read that you have to remove the spare tire. Also it's an annodized system, not stainless. NO THANKS!

I've been hearing a lot about the Magnaflow on this site. It's an all Stainless Steel system and is supposedly cheaper and better then the Gibson.
Does anyone know what the price range is or where you can buy them? I'd be interested in a group-buy if anyone else is.

Many muffler shops are dealers for Magnaflow. Check around in your area...unless you're in a rural area, there's a good chance you can find someone who sells and installs them. Their stainless mufflers run around $100. You can also order them from hi-po houses or direct. They have a good selection of oval and round mufflers...check out their website @ www.magnaflow.com

I would have to agree with the spintech. I have the spintech dual exhaust on my 2000 R/T and it's loud and has ballz!! Spintech is an excellent choice if your going for the rough touch sound.
Hope this helps. I've got some pics if your interested.......http://www.streetsourcemag.com/viewownerprofile.asp?profileid=11461.........

All flowmaster does is create noise. If thats your style than go for it. I would go with DYNOMAX, since it have very nice sound and it up some 10hp - 20hp on your vehical. Flowmaster have a very little limited air flow. Around 400CFM, while the Dynomax Ultraflow pushes around 1000CFM.
