Subject: Help!! Get rid of the Z-tube??
IP: Logged

Message:
hey guys, i have quite a quandry on my hands. i am having the gas pedal vibration problem that some seem to get after installing an intake and new/ported TB. it's serious enough to where i know it should be fixed, but i am not sure how i wanna fix it.

i feel fairly confident that the problem can be resolved by going back to the stock airhat that has the resonator on it, but that would mean getitng rid of my Z-tube. the dyno doesnt lie, and i know it helped out in the power. but, i know i want to keep the Fastman TB, so that means finding a fix somewhere else.

Dan (the Fastman) suggested putting a little piece of sheet metal in the Z-tube perpendicular to the TB butterfly to help create some turbulence and help cancel/dampen the harmonics to where the vibration lessens. however, he said he cant guarantee that it would completely resolve the vibration. his idea was similar to what Bernd posted a while back.

my other options would be to send back the Z-tube and exchange it for a Stage II. or, i could go back to the stock setup with a drop-in K&N, minus that oddly directed airhorn and a larger opening in the front of the airbox.

so help me out PLZ! i wanna make the best decision that will produce the most power while at the same time getting rid of the vibration. i only have a couple days left to my 30 days on the Z-tube and i'm definitely keeping the TB. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt that the vibration is actually hurting
anything.... if it were mine I would just live
with it. But then again, everyone knows that I'm
willing to make compromises in the persuit of
speed.... so maybe I'm not the best one to give
you advice? hehehe

If you absolutely can't live with the vibration
you can reinstall your stock air hat and attach
your conical filter to the end of the stock air
hose that used to go to the airbox. You will need
a short section of tubing to go between the hose
and the filter. Aim the filter toward the opening
on the side of the radiator and zip-tie the hose
to the AC line to hold it into place. The stock
airhat should almost cure the vibe pro

well, i just talked to Bernd and i think i'll try a couple things to fix it. and yeah, i am fairly certain the stock airhat would fix the problem too. but i know the Z-tube helped at the dyno so i am loathe to get rid of it.

thanks for the reply Duner, i'm not opposed to making compromises to some extent either, just didnt wanna be shaking the engine loose :)

yeah, yer prolly right. but being paranoid has taken me very far in life :)

but seriously, it did concern me a bit. it doesnt really "bother" me so to speak, but i was very concerned about it being a problem. so, thats why i ask around to make sure...

OTOH, if the vibration is caused by the airflow, and i didnt notice it till the TB install, then at least i know the new TB is flowing well :)

Yup.

Mine vibrates right as I hit 80, so I use it as a speed limiter. hahaha

Hey maybe this would be one thing a Tornado, (I watch alot of infomercials) would be good for? Its a stainless steel insert thats that goes into the intake tract and is supposed to increase HP and MPG but I have heard otherwise that it dont do nothing, but Id say it would create enough turbulance to maybe cancle out the vibrations? Anyone think this may work?

well, stick a fork in me and call me over-cooked.

i skipped dinner to put the stock air-intake setup back on. took it out for a spin and lo-and-behold -- the vibration was still there!?!? so, the only thing i can think of is that it was always there to begin with and i didnt notice it cuz i wasnt looking for it. either that or its the new TB. but, i'm not getting rid of the TB and the stock airbox didnt seem to fix it so i guess i'm gonna keep things as they are and be content.

thanks to all who helped with ideas etc :)
