Anybody out there got 1/8 mile times. Where I live it is a couple of hours to the nearest 1/4 mile track so all I have to look at is 1/8 mile times. Also, list what you have with your time.

I've ran a best of 11.0 @ 64MPH.
I think it's about average for the V6 Gen III.

I take most rangers and S-10 I can say if they're near stock like me.

I'll have to check the timeslips when I get home, but I was doing mid 10's at high 60's. But that was my first time out and I was launching it way too light (4.7+5 speed+3.55LS+original tires). Better launches could cut that time down by quite a bit.

(just a guess, 10.3@68)

And for you guys w/ the 5 speeds, how the hell do you get your feet to get the pedals right to do good burnouts?

Demon-Xanth, go practice in the rain in a parking lot.

1. Tach it up w/ clutch in and tranny in 1st gear.
2. Dump clutch, tires should spin violently.
3. Instantly move foot from clutch pedal to brake pedal and just hold it with enough pressure to stop forward motion. Don't want to bog engine. Keep the revs from bumping the limiter.... watch the tach closely.
4. Once you've got a nice spin going in place, let off the brakes and mat it..... put the clutch back in as it hits redline.

Once you've practiced enough in a totally wet parking lot, you'll be able to do it on dry pavement. That's pretty cool....

Once you've got it on dry pavement, you can do the same thing, but in 2nd gear, at the track. More tire speed for less revs. See?

hmm, I was trying to press all three pedals at once, I'm not sure I could've dumped the clutch then braked fast enough not to piss off the starter. I had pulled it off once on dry pavement, but this time the only smoke was from the clutch as I couldn't get the pedal up far enough to spin the tires while keeping the brakes down hard enough to hold it. (they sprayed VHT on the track). Though the fact that my friend's El Camino that pulled 13's couldn't do a proper burnout w/ a built TH-350 and none of the half a dozen mustangs there couldn't do a convincing one either, the burnout area must've been gripping up something fierce. (the guys running single second times had no problem doing it though)

As far as practicing in the wet, when it rains a road near my work makes the first three gears worthless as all they do is spin. That's too easy :)

Just went to my local track this weekend.

I have a '92 with the 318 and A-518. I've been setting up the rearend with a 4-link, coil overs, 8 3/4 with an Auburn Pro differential and 4:86 gears. I've got 29x12.5 Mickey Thompson Sportsman PRO's (super sticky).

Bear in mind that my (mostly stock/all simple bolt ons)engine/transmission has over 100,000 and I'm just getting the base line with the 4-link, before I start building the new engine.

I ran a best of 9.40 at 80 mph with a .292 reaction time and 2.16 60 ft.

With the new rear set up I've actually knocked of .3 of a second of my best ever with the stock 8 1/4 and 3.55's. I was very pleased!!!

Well, if the fast cars can't do a proper burnout, then the staging crew isn't keeping the water box wet enough. At the last NMCA event at Atlanta Dragway, that happened, and Chuck Samuels' turbo Mustang carried the front tires across the starting line instead of doing a burnout. On that pass, with the tires too cold, he lost it in 3rd gear and went guardrail to guardrail and then onto the roof. He went 11.89 on the lid!! hahahaha

ANyhow, the wet road is the perfect area to attempt the "three pedal chingo" because you are NOT going to be pissing off the starter. It's all a matter of timing and practice. And it's gonna save your clutch.

You'll get it.

Alex: thanks for the tip, I tried that on my way home, first gear on some medium grip pavement went really well, second gear on some pretty grippy pavement killed the engine (DOH!). All in all it worked better than I expected. And this was dry pavement.

My 1/8th mile times were between 10.173@69.481MPH to 10.638 (the starter used a Pro tree instead of a sportsman on that one, bog ensued)

Yeah, dry pavement is not going to make your 2nd gear burnouts very successful..... but at the track with a little water on your DOT-legal stickies, that's a different story.

And that pro tree will make you feel like a drunk retard when you realize that Bernstein and those guys actually sometimes REDLIGHT on a .400 light!! Wow! hahahahaha

I could've worked with a pro tree, but getting a pro when you're expecting a sportsman catches you off guard. But I got video showing that the other guy in the Mustang Cobra didn't see it coming either (and had .5 S written on his window as well).

Now if I can just get a tuner card that can do proper captures I could post something (tip: Don't buy Creative Labs)

...and if you're wondering, I kept it close for about half track, then he wasted me.

esp.... mopar joe with the 318 with the m1 and dynomax and minus the 3rd cat.

he only beats me by .20 not much in my book.

and i am sure he knows how to drive, just think if i raced some one with no mods and a v8.
think of that and then tell me that you dont think i beat v8's unmoded.

That sound like my '86 Ram , I swapped in a pretty warm 360 and kept the 999 and 8 1/4 with 2.71's , so far the best time I ran with it is a 9.80@86 mph with a 3.45 60' and spun for about 350' or so. It weighs 3480# and has 275/60/15 Pep Boys radials. It should run quite a bit better after I swap in a 727 with a 3,000 stall and a Dana 60 with 4.10's.

I should have been more specific , I was refering to the Dakota when I said I was losing 6/10's . Right now I have to run it out 20-30 feet at 1/2 throttle with the tires chirping and then floor it and spin pretty hard for about 10-15 feet , this is about the best way I found to launch it so far netting 2.75 60's. My next area of concentration will be getting it to hook and go. The Ram is another story all together I'm probably going to go with Cal-Tracks or ladder bars and coil-overs , this afternoon I nailed it at about 45-50mph or so when I was merging onto the interstate and hazed the right rear tire pretty bad , the motor is finally getting broken in and loosened up and is running pretty strong.
