Were can I get the asp crankpulley for my 4.7l dakota? It is listed as 265.00 on asp's website. Can I get a better price anywere else? It shows it with a harmonic dampener on there site does it include it? how hard would install be? do you need any special tools to remove the harmonic dampener?

I want to install it this weekend, but I am getting my belt tensioner looked at this weekend too, so it might not be untill Sunday and if they have to order anything, it wont be 'till next week I suspect. I don't want to install it because I may create more problems and I'd rather solve the one at hand. Also, this is rather unhonest dealership IMHO, so they could blame it on that.

If you all want me to, I will be more than happy to post a good review of it. I'll try to get the digital setup and get an install too.

Yeah, speedtweaks does, but you have to sorta ask and they have a two day order from the factory. Mine sorta got lost in the order, but I did get mine eventually. The great thing about these is it comes with a dampener, which many underdrive pullies do not. For long terms street use, I believe this is an important feature.

Expect a review/how-to of the ASP pulley in the near future.

Exactly how much power does a underdrive relieve on a 4.7?

It's reducing the rotating mass, so it kinda depends on how much your putting out. On a stock engine, it's like 15 I thought, most people do it more towards the end of their mods, I just got it cuz.

The crank pulley comes with the harmonic balancer on the 4.7. So it is a more difficult then the simple pulley swap. They told me it produced 8rwhp and 7.5rwtrq. Not too bad. If you have the heavy duty alternator, they said it "should" maintain full charge at idle. If you have the standard alternator, the battery will get low. With the battery going up and down like that will sure shorten the life of the battery. If you have a big stereo, do a lot of driving in traffic, or let it idle a lot, its not worth getting.

I had it, started to install it, then decided not to use it and sent it back. I couldn't get the electric fan disconnected w/o cutting the wires. I also have a decent size stereo and do a lot of local driving, so I decided not to use it.

I went to my dealer Sat. and they are calling Chrysler today because they have no idea what's going on with my odd drops in RPM and whisling sound. Hopefully they can order that part and get it installed by this weekend, so I can get that pulley installed. Sorry bout that, all I can do is wait for them... :(

Bastards never called me like they were supposed to, I doubt they even called Chrysler. I pretty much said screw it, I am going down to Spokane, Washington next Friday, so I decided I'll just stop at Dave Smith on the way. They were very welling to help me and know that my local dealer sucks. Much nicer people too!

Check this...

My truck needs an alignment and the steering has felt a lil sloppier lately, so I called them up and asked when I could get in. "We're all filled up this week and into mid next week."

"Well, my truck is pulling me off the road, I do need this fixed, immediately. I am taking a trip to Spokane and I am not going to drive highway speeds with my truck pulling off the road. Since this is dangerous and you're all filled up, can you contract this out?"

Didn't do anything, argued with me a lil, I hung up angered.

Called back, but this time to their store customer service rep./manager and said I wanted this fixed.

A new guy is on the phone and tell me they do not even own an alignment machine and outsource all that stuff to a local Les Schwab. He tells me he'll call them and set me up with an appt. 5 minutes later he calls back to tell me it's been setup.

With this dealership, I've found you've just gotta squeeze their cahones a lil and you'll get something done -- eventually.

Ooo, look at that, NSI says karidodgesucksabigone.com is available to register!

I might just install that beast in there anyways, shouldn't make any adverse effects on the other parts too much so they can't solve my squeeling/idling problem. I got tomorrow off, so I think I know what I get to do!

Alex, I could, but alignment is covered under the warranty for 12,000 miles, I am at just 7000. I have no reason to pay when I shouldn't have to, ya see.

conig, there are a couple tools you will need that you probably do not have. You will need:

Three prong pulley puller thingie, I dunno the real name.

Red Lock-Tite

Lube for the pulley where it'll be turning

Sockets (clicking torque wrench preffered)

Jacks

I'll be sure to make a list when I do it, lol.

Hmmm...... must've been one of those special "please just buy a car" warranties they were handing out after 9-11-01.

Good score on your part... sucks for me. My 3/36 warranty ran out about 12,000 ago. And it had no provisions for alignment in the first place. Oh well.

Keep us posted on that pulley. I am still thinking about doing that one, too.

My truck's been in the shop for the past couple days getting fixed an stuff shaved. I made a deal with my dad that if I helped rebuild the deck this last Sunday, he'll help install the pulley. I've never installed a pulley, but with him doing it I should be able to get it in before I leave this weekend to Spokane, WA. Man am I cuttin' it close, heh. Sorry it's taking a while, pissed me off I have a performance part just sitting around...
