Subject: Anyone with a Paxton on a 4.7?

Hey team, if any of you have experiance with a Paxton supercharger on a 4.7 dakota, let me know what you think. I have been studying all the chargers available to the newer 4.7's and I am leaning towards Paxton. But to put that cash blindly into a product without reading reviews is foolish. So if any of you could help myself (and I'm sure a lot of others wondering this same thing) out, that would be extremely appreciated.

I've been doing the research on the Paxton and several others, but my mindset has shifted towards a turbo setup instead of a S/C. I'd probably set the turbo/engine to start the boost at 3000 RPM (to avoid traction problems in 1st gear), and it'll be a little less mechanical stress on the engine itself. If you want, I'll gather my data and email it to you (eventually, when I'm done with all my research).

Hey Scooby,

I'm just curious, why are you leaning towards the Paxton? Is your 4.7 an auto or manual trans? I'm am also thinking about a s/c but I have a 4.7 automatic and don't think a centrifugal would be that good for me since I rarely get the RPM above 4000. I would also consider a turbo, but don't know of a turbo kit for the 4.7. Thanks.

I think the twin screw type kenne bell would be
the better buy, a littly cheaper, and you dont
have to tap the oil pan ; ) its about $3700 at
most websites, here is a link for some info on
it.

Well it doesn't matter now about the paxton, they aren't in production yet untill late summer, yeah, I've heard that one before. Kennebell seems like the one to go with except they haven't fixed all their problems. With full boost down low your auto(which is what I have) seems to down shift right off the bat and the shifting points are all screwed. I have read a lot of comments on this forum about the k-b s/c, none of them seem overwhelmingly convincing. I figured that with the paxton the trany wouldn't be shifting in and out, in and out under full boost, that seems to me that with the heavy load from the boost and then a down shift means a lot of wear and tear. Plus, they heat up since they don't have a cooling system and then your power goes down by half! Of course the paxton supposively has more boost at a higher rpm which means you'll most likely spend more time in that high range and that is wear and tear also. You may have to tap the pan, but atleast it stays cooler and you don't lose power. It seems like a pick your poison sort of decision to me, but hey, I hope I'm wrong, will someone show me that I am! Then I'll probally buy a s/c.

yeah, I want my motor to last, but I really need
that extra 90HP kick at the track. I know one
person on this board has the K/B, but he
hasnt been around in a while. seems to me
that nobody, (except duner) has gone the
forced induction route on their 4.7....

To me the Paxton seems to be a better bet.
I like the idea of a simple pulley change to get more boost, plus the 4.7 dies off after 5000 rpm's , so that extra psi at high rpm may be a good bet. I just wouldn't be happy with 6 psi though, I'm thinking like 10 psi at 5800 rpms.

thats only my opinion though....

either way its alot of $$$'s so versitility seems to be the best bet.

I have had the Kenne Bell on my 4.7L for about 18 months now. Put well over 15,000 mi. on it without one single problem. My truck is 5 speed though, so I can't comment on the auto thing. Mine's a 2000 CC 4X4 with 3.92 gears, limited slip rear, Borla Headers, Magnum Perf. TB, Flowmaster exhaust, ect.

It's all about learning how to launch the truck. I mean if I wanted to I could run the RPM's up then pop the clutch and spin, spin, spin... or ease the RPM's up to 2,200 or so (no boost), pop clutch, slightly chirp the tires. Once the truck is rolling good punch it, get the full boost... power shift into 2nd chirping the tires, full boost and I'm gone! I've learned to launch this thing fairly well even with these all-terrain tires. I can only imagine how it might be on a 2WD truck with some good sticky Nitto's.

I love the instant 6 lbs. of boost that's available around 2,000 RPM's in any gear. It's great for passing and merging too. I can be cruising at 45 MPH or so in 4th gear at lower RPM's with no boost, then punch it to the floor and have instant 6 lbs. of boost...GONE!

The power is there when I want it, and when I don't, I just drive normally without boost and get close to stock gas mileage. If I get on it though and those 2 auxillary fuel injectors kick in, gas mileage obviously suffers.
