Hey guys, just wondering if I could get some feedback on the project I have started. I bought a 2001 Dak QC 4.7l (auto) a little over a month ago. In that time, I've obviously read way too much on this board and the DML. :) Consequently, I have this crazy idea to turn my 4-door "family ride" into a semi-mean street machine. Nothing drastic, but I figure 230-240 RWHP should do the trick. That would put crank HP at ~300 right? I also assume this would get me well into the 14's correct?

Here is what I have lined up so far:

* Flowmaster 50, dual outlets (already got it)
* Intense Performance Z-tube (already got it)
* Fastman "true" 68mm TB (should be here next week)
* RS 180 t-stat, Autolite 3923's, TPS adjust (my next free Saturday)
* IAT adjuster (as soon as it's available again)
* Catco high-flow (early July)
* HO cams and intake (late July)
* Electric fan conversion (TBD)
* Speedtweaks flash (when they have it available)
* New crank pulley?
* ???
* ???

Keep in mind this is just a tentative plan. May need to change it a bit based on funds etc. Does this look do-able to reach the RWHP #'s I posted above? And keep in mind I dont wanna have to worry about passing emissions.

I'll be keeping track of my progress on my website ( http://www.milkmonkey.com ) and hopefully I'll be able to get dyno time to compare between each mod.

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. I know that the process will take a while, based mostly on cash availability, but hopefully by this fall all the above will be completed.

Thanks a lot already for all the help on the board, whether directly or indirectly!

-adam

If you can pull off the dyno bit after the mods, you're the man. I started out trying to do this, but screwed myself right out of the box by losing the first one! What a doof I am sometimes...

Good luck with the mods and such though.

I'm not sure that those mods will do much for the computer controlled 4.7L beast. Since everything's so computer-reliant, I'm thinkin' supercharger and flash are the way to go.

thanks Demon Dakota, i'll need all the luck i can get convincing my wife all this stuff is for mileage and dependability ;) and as long as time and funds allow, i'm gonna try and dyno before/after TB, and then again after Catco, and then after the cams/intake.

YJ: what makes you say the mods above wont do anything? which ones have you tried that didnt work out? obviously i'm not expecting much from the small stuff like the autolites, t-stat, etc, but all of the other mods i listed have been shown to work in some measure or another. a quick browse thru the boards will demonstrate a performance benefit from everything listed above.

btw, i did list a flash (or chip or whatever), but the only thing available for the 2001 4.7 is the ASE and the Jet paperweights. they might work for a small minority but so far the results are way too sketchy for me to put my money down. at least if someone like Speedtweaks or Leach had a flash I would trust that it would provide a definite ROI.

dont get me wrong, i am open to any suggestions, but i think my list is fairly solid when it comes to definite gains per mod (or at least as a helper mod for the more major stuff).

Update: Got a price for parts/labor for the HO cams and intake install from a local Dodge dealer. Parts will run as follows:

$55.20 each for the HO cams ($110.40 total)
$120.75 for the HO intake

$440 labor

These prices were with a local Mopar club discount.

So at about $700 total for the whole thing, parts and labor, does this sound like a decent price for what I should expect to gain?

I definitely dont wanna chance the install on my own so getting someone reputable to do the work is kind of a necessary evil.

BTW, Thanks to Tom at Speedtweaks for the lead!!

How is the project going? I was wondering why you decided on the Intense performance intake and what you expect to gain from it.

Trying to chose the intake right now for my '01 4.7 QC 4x4 as well.

Good luck,
Wedo

Wedo: I decided on the IP Z-tube because of the design mainly. The Airaid intake design looks like crap, and the new K&N design looks almost the same. I just dont understand how having air flow blocked on all but one side is going to help the engine breath better to justify the cost. You might as well just drop-in a high flow filter and remove the elbow from the front of the airbox. Plus, the K&N setup only claims ~5-7 RWHP, not worth the $240+.

Between the Z-tube and 360 Airintakez, I liked the look of the Z-tube better. They also came recommended by Dan at Fastman, who is doing my TB. At first, I was kinda disappointed in it because it lacks any support past the rubber sleeve on the TB. I ended up making a support that gives some positive up-pressure right near where the filter joins the tube. It's very sturdy now, but I still dont like the fact that I had to do that myself. $200+ for an intake shouldnt require someone to make sure it was properly supported.

I cant say how much it has helped as I didnt have a chance to get to a dyno previous to installing it. I will be dyno-ing the truck this weekend (hopefully) before I get the TB installed. What I do know is that for the mods I plan on getting done, the engine will need a whole lot more airflow than stock, and I feel the Z-tube will provide that.

hth...

I love my kenne-bell flash it did wonders for my engine. If your speed limiter is 98mph(like mine) they will not raise it. if it's 115mph they will put it where ever you want.

Besides a quick switch to the abs fuse removes the limiter all together. and since I run another speed limiter it's fin with me.

Do you have part numbers for the cams and intake? I want to do the same thing for my 2001 QC in addition to a performance TB.

2001 QC 4.7, JBA headers, true dual exhaust, flow masters , no cat converters, jet stage II (damned speed limiter), homebrew air intake, Poweraid TB Spacer (yes, it did make a difference)

i dont have the part #'s. sorry...

i am having the dealer order them cuz they can get me an awesome deal. i have to join one of the local mopar clubs to get the discount, but @ $25 for a membership compared to at least $75 off parts and another $20/hour off labor rates i cant complain.

i think i'll be able to get them installed sometime next month, when i call them back i'll get the part numbers verified.

i think a quick search around the board might net some part #'s. seen em listed before but dont have the link offhand...
