Subject: TB Spacer for '01 & '02 4.7L
IP: Logged

Message:
I have been looking through past threads about TB spacers for the 4.7 liters. There seems to be some mixed emotions on them, but I can't find any real numbers. It is very apparent that these spacers DO NOT work on the other motors.

I have the '02 4.7L and am wondering if anyone has put any type of TB spacer on their '01 or newer truck? Does anyone have dyno (not "butte dyno") numbers for this modification? Has anyone really seen any numbers for the new 4.7's with TB spacers?

Thanks for the input

oh... and for those who "have put TB spacers on 5.9,5.7,3.9..." I get it... they don't work with your motors.

You won't find dyno numbers for the TB spacer. Street and Performance Electronics (helix power tower) redesigned theirs (so the tech said) and its does lots of good now. I was going to get one but I have a modified TB so it won't work with my truck now because the bore of the spacer would be to small.

Best thing for you to do is to try it and return it if you are not satisfied. Let everyone know if you get something positive from it as well.

I may just have to oder one...

Checked out Street Performance site... is there a difference in the 2001 and 2002 Dakotas? This site has a listing for 2000&2001 Dakotas and a listing for 2002 Ram... is there a difference?

D...

What is your reasoning?
What is your proof?

You can't just say something is crap without backing it up... did you dyno the TB spacer? What else did you to the motor... your not running a 3.9,5.2,or 5.9 are you?

You may be right that they are crap, but without proof it is like saying that the body snatchers are real!

I'm not saying they are crap, they just arent
worth the cash ! especially when the
company says that they arent good for HP
improvements, only MPG improvements.

go read the tips and tricks section at
speedtweaks.net, I was just trying to help.

I have one. I did several Gtech runs before and after installing the spacer. Got not one bit of a measurable performance gain. NOT ANY. They are not worth it. I would sell you mine cheap but I won't rip anyone off.

Just spend the extro $100.00 and get a Fastman TB for your dak. Then you will know you got some improved performance.

D... I am not looking for horsepower here, I am looking for bottom end torque. When you say they aren't worth the cash... have you experimented with them?

CThomp... It is my understanding that the Throttle bodys really help on the "Horsepower" and the top-end torque and slightly hurt the bottom-end torque. Am I mistaken?

Patrick ODay... What are you running? What spacer did/do you have? What were you testing for? Top-end, horsepower, bottom-end? I am not familiar with "Gtech," what is it?

The TB didn't hurt my lower end at all. It seemed to help all around. My mpg's went up slightly.

My only mods are the K&N Drop in filter and true dual exhaust (racing bullett mufflers). My dyno run was Max RWHP 213.2 and Torque was 269.4. I can't find the darn run to scan it, but when I add my CAI, I'll dyno again and not loose the damn slip. Hopefully this will help me out as well.

Oops. Forgot to mention the dang spacer part. No difference in measurable HP and TQ (a few tenths on each, but that's not measurable in my opinion). So the spacer is bunk.

Also, thats pretty good numbers for just an exhaust and a drop in. Makes me curious as to what mine would be. I need more mods!!!

D... sorry if I sounded like I was slamming you on your earlier posts :-( I missed your post stating you had an '01 and actually ran it. Thought it was someone just giving there subjective opinion. Thanks for the info!

Gtech measures HP among other things. See http://www.gtechpro.com/meas.html for more info.

I tested for HP. The TB spacer I have is the Poweraid unit. I tested it on my 2000 4.7L Dak. The TB spacer was a waste of time and money.

I also plan om adding an TB, MAF Sensor, and a computer reflash/chip/performance add on (whichever I decide on). Next year comes the supercharger. Then I'll pretty much be done with my Dakota.

Already have an intake. Not sure if its providing enough air though. I may buy a new one. At the time I didn't think I would be buying a new TB. Now that I have a new TB I want a bigger one. It never ends. So I'm chosing carefully. I'm probably going to get the airmax intake. It has a 3.5" ID. That should be perfect. It costs the same as a z-tube and it has a heat sheild. I doubt i'll ever get a supercharger. Unless I run into some huge amount of cash.

CThomp,

Just open a seperate savings account and put it whatever you can on a weekly basis. Call it the supercharger fund or something., just don't take money out unless it's to buy a new S/C. Thats' what I do for the big mods on my vehicles.

ALready got one of those funds. Its kinda slow right now though due to home improvement. Even if I ever did get a supercharger there are other things I need first. Header, Cat, Exhaust. The list goes on. If I ever do get a supercharger it would be the very last thing.
