Subject: R/T wheels 40lb?!
IP: Logged

Message:
I emailed capitalwheels about their R/T replicas, about the weight of the regular painted ones vs the chromed ones, they responded saying they all weigh 40 lb each irregardless of finish. Maybe I'm just too used to my little toyota wheels but isn't 40lbs for a single wheel without a tire on it a bit heavy as hell??

Yes, the Dak R/T wheels are heavy. If you think the 40lbs for the stock wheels is a lot, try 62lbs for wheels and tires on the 20" replicas.

lol....goddamn, I really HAVE been in the ricer community too long...

Alright then. Mopar needs to make some RT wheels that weigh like 11lbs each without tires, boy that'd be sweet :)

I wouldn't want a wheel that light on a 4000#+ truck , they would bend or break too easy. One of my friends was running 17" Fiske forged wheels(14#) on his 2600# RX-7 and was run off the road and bumped a curb at about 45mph , it broke 3 of the 5 spokes and bent the hell out of the wheel.

I called a local dealer in Rochester, MN
And they told me the book says "stock" R/T wheels are rated at 8 lbs. ?
What's the deal?

They weigh a ton, 40 lbs does sound right.

Duner and I weighed 3 rims with tires at the Southwest Shootout Mopar event in Tucson in March.

15x8 Durango rim w/slick = ~50lbs
17x9 R/T rim w/street tire = ~62 lbs
20x9 R/T rim w/street tire = ~72 lbs

Duner has the figures written down somehwere but it was basically a 10lb difference between each rim/tire combo.

check this thread out... confirms what Sincity RT has said about the weights.

then check the thread on my dyno pulls

using both wheels. Looking at peak HP alone there was a very minimal difference. Street performance difference would be difficult to prove, but probably a more significant performance loss.
