Got a few questions for the motorheads on the site. June 17th my Dak is getting her cosmetics redone, along with the installation of a Reflexxion cowl induction hood. Here are the questions: 1.) what would be the BEST air intake setup for under a cowl hood? and 2.) would it be better to remove the V-6 throttle body and replace it with a 4-barrel, or just take the V-6 throttle body i have now and have it bored out, gasket-matched? Thanks for the help guys...

the 4bbl TB is WAY too big for a V6. get a v8 TB, or aftermarket 48mm TB.

for the best cold air kit with a cowl hood. go with the 14x2" open element K&N. it will probably give about the same performance as the gen II (with the cowl hood), but is about 1/2 the price.

Hey Eric, do you know where i can see a pic of the K&N open element kit? I tried telling the lady at my local performance shop this past weekend what i wanted, but she kept trying to sell me the Airaid kit, or the K&N kit that goes all the way down by the front fender..."I DONT WANT THAT, LADY!!!"
Also, instead of getting a V-8 throttle body, could i just bore out my V-6? What is the stock mm of the V-6 3.9? Thanks for all the help. Hope to hear from you or someone soon! My project is progressing!

i dont know where you can get a pic of the open element, but tell her that you need a K&N gen I, for a 95 dodge ram. it is the open element, and will fit your V6.

you can port the v6 TB, im not sure on the size though.

I have a 13x3 K&N I tried on a v-6 to see if it would fit. If I am thinking of a similar one there is no way it will fit, firwall is too close, atleast on the 99'. here is my page with a pic:

The other pic is the current setup from www.ramairbox.com , they make kits specificly for cowl induction as well.

Thanks for the info Dave. I was really leaning toward the second pic of the Gen II K&N I saw in the second pic. that is exactly how i want it to look. But if it wont fit, then we have a problem. Does anyone know for sure which size filter would fit? And what all i would have to remove and replace to fit the filter on?

i used to have a 14" on my 98 before switching to the Gen II. worked fine for me. i dont think they changed anything from 98 to 99.
