I was thinking about putting the roller rockers on the other day and i got a service manual and looked at all the instructions and it didn't say anything about adjusting the rockers for each cylinder at top dead center. It just says to bolt them all on (without rotating the engine any) and then put the covers on and your set to go...they automatically adjust. This doesn't sound right to me. Can anybody provide insight?....thanks

I just installed Crowers on my truck and they have you adjust them to top dead center. Not fun at all. But no adjusting later on.

There's no way around it. You must adjust them from TDC when the valve is fully closed. If you take a rocker arm off a valve that is opened, you cannot set zero lash. If you set zero lash on a valve that was previously opened, the valve will open very little or not at all. I don't know what manufacturer your rockers are but if that is what their instructions said then you need to get some different roller rockers. A mistake putting these on could end up costing you a lot of money.

The stock rockers are not adjustable ,you just bolt them down and the lash is ok( + or - .030). Performance roller rockers are adjustable and you must set lash for each rocker.

Valve lash with a push rod engine with hydralic lifter and OEM rockers is not rocket science!!!! You usualy bolt them on and tighten while rotateing the push rod with your fingers until it does not rotate easily. Then you fire the engine up and adjust them the rest of the way with a third hand and a wrench. I do not know how they want you to adjust their roller rocker. If they give you a clearance measurement between the roller and the top of the vale stem then you would have to adjust each one at TDC with a filler guage. They should also tell you if it must be done with the engine hot or cold. If you prep. right it should not take much longer then 10-15 minutes to do all eight cyclinders. Make sure you find out if the lash adjustment is with a hot or cold engine!!!!! It makes a huge difference!!! Use a large rachet with the right size socket on your crank pulley to rotate the engine. If you do it right you can get more then one cylinder at a time! You normaly get 2 intakes and two exhausts with very little movement then rotate the the engine get 2 intakes and to exhausts.... until you are done. If you do not feel comfortable hopeing from exhaust to intake on different cylinders or if it is a hot adjustment do all of the exhausts first and then do all of the intakes. This requires more turns of the crank but it is easier to keep straight.
