I would like to know if the 5.9 is available for any 4x4 Dakota besides the quad cab? If so, does anyone know what kind of gas mileage I can expect of the 5.9 compared to the 5.2 in a 4x4?

Nope. Just the R/T and quad cab auto only. Get the 4.7 the 5.9 is a relic IMHO.

Waiting for my 2001 black 4.7 RC Sport 5 speed 3:92 limited slip

Hey Blizzard, hoe is the 4x4 on your quad cab? Is it as good as the old shifter style 4x4 system I got on my 93?

p.s.-what does loaded for bear mean?

Well, Gas mileage in the 5.9 suxx. I am getting averages of 13.5 on the highway and 12mpg in the city. I did not originally buy the truck for good mileage but the economy is getting better as the engine loosens up. I just turned 9400 miles and with a 10 mph tail wind and 4 people with luggage and the tailgate up....I got 15.5mpg running at an average of 85mph!!!!! this is unheard of I guess. One of my problems is that with the torque of the 5.9, my foot gets heavy.

As for the T-case, I think on the 01's you cannot put the case in nuetral and tow them behind RV's.....don't know for certain.

When choosing the engine, just keep in mind how much the 4x4 weighs in either the club cab or Quad. I have had 2 club cabs and now the QC and I love the extra space and the fact I can take 4 friends with me. the CC is a 2 seater and nothing more. I love my 2k but I wish Rancho would get the lift kit out soon or I am going to go Postal and start modifying my Mustang instead....I know that was a bad word but sorry.

Andrew - I've got the rotary 4x4 selector switch. Haven't had to use it yet, so don't know how well it works. I'd still like to have the old fashioned lever, but we'll see. And, yes you can tow the '01, was reading a bit about it in the book. "Loaded for bear" just means I ordered about every option for it, with the exception of power seat, leather, and rear window defrost.
And I'm still waiting on a lift too! But doubt that Rancho will go higher than 3". So I'm holding out for Superlift's 6" lift ... due sometime late summer (or so I was told).

6 inch lift would be kick a%$ so keep us posted. If it comes out in late summer, then it should be reasonably priced at the end of the year right as I need new tires!!!!!!

Price will probably be pretty steep this year. I'm betting that it'll stay expensive until Rough Country, Tuff Country, Rancho, Trailmaster, and others start making lifts for the 2000+ Dakotas. Gotta have competition to drive the price down.
But I'm still planning to buy the Superlift ... steep as it might be! This is a cool truck, but it still sits toooooooooooooo low!! hehehe
