i just got in the 1.7 roller rockers and was wandering where i could find a detailed how-to. Can you reuse the stock valve covers? Are the stock studs screw in or do you have to tap the head for the new studs? How do you tell when each cylinder is ready for adjusting? Thanks for all your help...jteuton

I can't help you too much, but I have heard that you cannot re-use the stock valve covers, as they don't provide enough clearance. I think most people that are running with roller rockers have went to the Mopar valve covers.

What brand of Rockers, there's different installation instructions.

You'll need Mopar covers, or knock in your oil baffles of your stock covers with most 1.7s.

It sounds like you might need to get some help. If you have never even been under a valve cover or had to adjust valves on any vehicle. It's not hard but there are a few important things you need to know.

I put Crower 1.7 RR's on my '97 5.2 and did not have a clearance problem with the stock valve covers,I did'nt even have to modify the baffles. If you don't want to spend the bucks for the fancy ones, try the stock valve covers first.

I have purchased the Crower 1.7s for my 5.9. I bought the MOPAR poloshed valve covers as I have read that if you don't want to modify your OEM covers, they are required for clearance.

I have not installed mine yet.

However, I compared (eye balled)the OEM covers with the $140 MOPAR covers and they both are about the same height.

I guess I'll probably install the MOPAR valve covers, but I might not have bought them if I had been sure the OEMs would fit.

You might want to check your stock covers... There's a good chance that they might have tapped a little into the stock covers. Depending on the year, the cam height, etc... there's variances in production quality-- a majority don't fit (I tried it, and they didn't clear-- went ahead and installed Mopar covers). The V6 crowd has the same problem (but no Mopar covers available and they have to knock in their stock baffles).
