People have broken 9.25 rearends..... but certainly not with a stock 4.7 and an automatic.

Your co-worker is definately full of it!

I only know of one that's broken so far....it was broken by dropping the clutch at 5000 rpms repetedly with slicks on a sticky starting line.

I don't think you have anything to worry about regardless of what tires you might run.

Been there, done that ;) , BTW, 3500 rpm clutch dumps for the record (after about 130 runs the 9.25" rear finally broke, and who said they were bullet proof?)... not to mention a broken clutch recently on the street...

BUT IT WAS FUN !!!! 1.8 sec 60' times are one Helluva kick in the pants !!

Sure they can stop a bullet, but can they stay together when a truck hits them? :)

Well...I've never broken a 9.25, but I grenaded an 8.25 in my '92 318. It's funny though...I wasn't even racing or "showing off" when it happened.

I thought that the housing would be salvaged, but the entire housing/carrier was trashed. What a nightmare!

Hey Derek, Yes thats my truck on thier Website. Thanks !! Yea the truck looks totally Different now. I have added the Hotchkis 2/3" drop kit, RT wheels, Nitto 275/50's,Fender Flares and removed all the Sport stickers. Those Hoosiers were 28"x 11.5"x15" Hoosier Quicktime Pro's DOT. VERY, VERY Sticky (See below) :) ha ha

RaceMe, I too trashed the whole Housing and Carrier. Had to order a new complete unit, minus axles from Chrysler, to the tune of $1100 !! ouch
It really sucked because I wanted to uprade the gear set to an aftermarket ring and pinion !!
Got to pay to play I guess ??

It wasn't a Dakota, but an 85 AMC Eagle wagon (my first car when I was 15)
The thing was such a mutt, I could barley get the one tire to chirp around turns, so when winter came, drove onto some ice and I got the one tire goin, speedo would read 60mph- berried, and then I'd hit the dry pavement. hehe talk about a long @ss patch. I did this countless times, before with this car but one day I got it going about 30mph hit some pavement and clunk, there it went.
