Subject: I have a S-Trim Vortec... Question

Hi guys, new to the board, and I think i'm gonna stick around.. hehe

I have a question
I have a 98 5.2L and a S-Trim Vortec charger. The truck has headers, 24# injectors, and what not... nothing too much done to it. No engin work at all. I wanted to know whats the max amount of boost i can push through my engin? How much can they handle and still be safe?

Right now its got the 6lbs pully on there that came with the Charger.

Its not intercooled either.

Any help would be great
thanks in advance.

sorry, yet another question (might as well ask most of them now).

Is there anywhere i can not use the charger without having to have to take it off?

If you just take the belt off, would that work?
I know that some chargers you can do that on, but not sure with this setup...

thanks again.

From what Ive learned , 6 lbs is ok to run stock.
But if you go 8 lbs or more , you gotta put on some good head gaskets and studding the heads would help too. I wouldnt go much more than 10-11 lbs unless you change the pistons and beef up the bottom end. All the pressure in the cylinder sounds like trouble to me.

the vortech and paxtons can run 10# on the stock gaskets (just dont run the truck too hard while cold). the powerdyne units usually blow the gaskets probably because of the piss pour fuel sysem (makes it detonate)
i have talked to 3 people that are running 10#'s on the stock gaskets, and one has a mopar PCM. none has had any problems

you could just take off the belt and it will be fine. you obviousy will not have the power of a SC'd engine, and you will run a little rich if you keep the 24# injectors in.

oh by the way, that is not like 3 out of 100 people that have not had problems with the gaskets. its 3 out of 5.

all 3 are running the paxton kit, one is a vortech and i dont know if he is running the stocks or not (could verry well be), and the other is running a paxton on a fresh 408. (if i just built a engine, i would not use the stocks either)
