'98 3.9L v-6 won't start. It started off about six months ago. At that time it would be tough to start(crank over a few times before it would get going with lots of throttle) when it was cold. This only lasted for a few days and then the problem would go away. This cycle happend 2 or 3 times but up to a week ago I hadn't seen this problem for several months. Last week I had trouble starting but the old fix worked, lots of gas peddle and a few tries. Then this past weekend, I couldn't get it started at all. The engine would labor away cranking and sputtering, but never got going. Finally, the engine would not even turn over (the battery is dead now).

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Toby

Check basics first. Charge battery at leasdt up to min. voltage @ 12.4 v.d.c. Then check fuel pressure. When was the last time fuel filter was replaced? Is the fuel pump going on when ign. key is on ON position? If ok, check spark. Use inline tester w/ noide light. Does MIL light go on & stay on? If so, need to retrieve codes w/ OBD-II scan tool. This is enough to start with.
