Subject: brake rotors?
IP: Logged

Message:
first i would like to say that i have just bought my first truck, a 2002 club dak.

now i'm used to driving cars, and cars have brakes that work, unlike this dakota. Now i know its not my dakota only because i test drove several from different dealers, and they are all the same: non responsive, sluggish....

have you guys noticed this too? I have alot of power in this truck and when i drive around corners i like to steer + brake at the same time to put the weight on the tire(s) that need it the most.

our brakes don't allow this technique! so help me out and tell me if there are some rotor upgrades or something like that i can do my self. and i want to do it myself (is that an easy task?)

sorry for the long post.

Why do you brake in corners? I've always braked before the corner then accelerating through it.

i,ve raced alot in f4. u know the ones with a 4 banger but have a high power to weight ratio.

anyway the propor way to handle a corner is to feather the stearingand braking at the same time. this allows you to put the wieght on the right tire for gripping.

anyway i don't want to get into the phyics or a debate on cornering. what you said is how joe-public is supposed to drive.

anyway has anyone replaced their brakeing system? comments?

I have a 2002 Dakota Quad and the brakes work great! and I've tested others at the dealer and they also work as well as any vehicle I've driven. Sounds like you're over heating them. try taking you foot off the brake :0

hehe, I've seen that method, but it's always looked a bit hard with my dakota and a clutch, so I never attempted it..

I was just asking, don't sound so pissy when you answer. Sorry, never heard of f4 :P

Steven G,
You asked if it would be easy to upgrade the brakes. If you have been around racing that much you should know how. It is easy for someone with a little experience.
Yes, the brakes on my 02 are weak. Especially compared to most cars.

I was asking if it was easy because of the anit-lock braking system. I must admit that I’m not very good when it comes to electrical or computerized things, I just don’t want to mess anything up.

You know you guys are weird, it seems that everyone is at each others throats here. Handi2, there is no reason for you to be mean. Bjlindey, I don’t understand what your problem is, xplikt has nothing wrong to deserve that treatment. For everyone else thanks, but I don’t think ill be coming to this website ever again, even to see how you reply to this post, so don’t bother cuz I wont read it. You ppl need to grow up.

Thanks for your inhospitality…

oops, sorry Steven G, didn't mean to scare ya off..

If you just HAPEEN to come back around..

Here you can get upgrades in the brakes and I think even a conversion kit to go from drums to discs...which I think would be pretty cool for any vehicle personally.

Damn, well that sucks...wish I hadn't been so vulgar. :(

And I don't even know what I was referring to in my post!! Couple too many barley pops, I guess. Sorry, J.P-xplikt!! BTW, I think I read if you put a '1' in the qty. on that page, it will work for you.
Once again to you and the board...I'm sorry for the stoopid post!!!
