Subject: ?? following JBA header install
IP: Logged

Message:
After much deliberation, I finally decided to do my JBA Cat4Ward "Rams Horn" header installation yesterday. I've got a write-up on the install up on the web site...JBA Header page...finished it this morning.

But the install did lead to some questions. I am still running the factory/OEM Y-pipe, catalytic converter, and air box. The air box will be going bye-bye with the Shaker hood install that will take place two weekends from now, but I'm wondering what, if any, gains I could see from exchanging the Y-pipe & catalytic converter. The Y-pipe is my primary concern, as it narrows down a little in the corners.

I've heard conflicting things about the Y-pipe. Some say that you won't see any gains in going to an after-market unit. While others say that it is the only way to go. And to make it even more interesting, I've heard that there are different Y-pipes on these rigs, and that it depends on which Y-pipe you have.

So, here's the question: The Y-pipe on my 2000 Quad cab w/5.9L meets in an over-under shotgun style. Is a JBA (or equivalent) Y-pipe going to buy me any additional performance gains?

If the Y pipe on yours is anything like the one on my 94' it should give some gains. Mine has an awful crimp in it right befor the Y. I beleive this is where it is heald at the factory for bending. I ordered a new one from Mopar and it looked exactly the same except shiny. Anyone know what KRC whats for one of their Y pipes?

I went with the Mopar performance headers on my R/T and would never install headers w/o a free flowing Y-pipe. The fact of mounting up JBA's or the Mopar(Positive Performance) headers to a factory, highly restricted, Y-pipe is a waste of money. I would definitly get a new Y-pipe, the headers made a substantial difference in hp and Torque on my R/T.
