Definately in the bed , most tracks around here will kick you out if it's mounted in the passenger compartment and you don't have a firewall between it and you.

I thought it was supposed to lay down at sort of a tilted angle; I am just learning about nitrous too, excuse my ignorance.

I stripped an old toolbox of its handle and latch then wire brushed it down to bare metal. Took it into the dealer and had it painted body colour (I did my bumper too) and mounted it right behind the rear wheelhouse in the bed for my battery. It looks good and clean and factoryish. If you have to add weight to a truck you plan on racing it's a good Idea to put it as close as you can to the rear axle for weight distribution reasons.

It is easier to REACT
Than it is to THINK

moparjoe20,

you can have it in your cab with out a firewall. You only need a blow off valve with a line that exits the cab... but.... unless you are bracket racing they never really check your truck for qualifications.

1st you have to have it a 45 degree angle and the bed is a great place for it if you dont want to drill any holes you have to put it way back in the back of the bed but you still have to drill a hole for the blowoff valve (shorter the line better hit) so mount it under the window (i cheated i put in my tool box) and drill one hole big enough for the line caulk around the line and run it under the cab and in through the engine bay and the rest you get from the instruction book

My local track has a problem with them inside the cab because last year some dumbass in a Civic hatchback left his bottle heater on too long and the bottle exploded inside his car when he was getting ready to stage, it blew out all the glass , bulged all the body panels around it and he looks like he was a victom of a hand grenade.

dizzy,
its not a 45 degree angle... the mounting stands make it the correct angle that you need. Inside the cab mine was mounted to the center console mounts that attach to the seats. I really dont recommend doing it but i kinda know what i am doing...

What's really kinda fun is to route the purge thru the thorttlebody into the motor. Then there's no pissssst-pssssst over the windshield. If nobody asks you to raise your hood, they won't be able to tell that your hittin the ol' 125-button until you're ten lengths ahead.

alex, have you ever "routed a purge thru the tb" before? I'm guessing NO.

If you have I think you would know what a melted piston or blown off air hat looks like.

You are right, I've never routed it thru my TB, but my buddy with the 95 Dakota that runs 11.60's has it routed that way. My other buddy with the '87 Must-wang LX that runs 10.72 purges it below the carburetor (straight into the motor). My buddy with the 10.35 sec 1968 Must-wang Fastback has it routed below his carburetor. And then there's the guy with the 408 Dart running 9.90's with his purge routed below the carb, too. Oh and the buddy of mine with the 13-sec Maverick where it's routed below the carb. Hmmmmm...... who else?

Gosh, nobody's melted a piston or blown the airhat off just yet while purging. Now that's not to say that missing third gear in that Dakota and still hitting the button didn't blow a hole in the hood, but nobody's done it while purging.

See, what you do is rev it to 3000 and then just bump the button. WaaaaaaaWAAAAM.... waaaaaaaWAAAAM! Kinda like that. Just a few quick times. The whole point in street racing is to never lift your hood. And if you have to lift, and they see your solenoids, you just tell them that you don't even have it armed. Then when your on the line and they think you're just clearing the bowls out, you're really purging.

Then you take their beer money home with you.

But, as for me, I've never routed my purge line thru the motor. Hell, i don't even have "NOSS" (whatever the hell that is).

I was assuming that they purged at idle which would be way bad.

I will say I dont believe it does an engine much good to purge into it at 3000rpm, why do you think the manufactures (NOS, Zex, NX) say "only use at WOT"?

I have no purge valve and I still take lunch money, humm............

How many seconds you think a purge valve will knock off my times?

Also, if they purge into the engine at burnout or whatever you said, why dont they just hit the juice like they would in a race but at wot in a burnout instead? that would purge it and cost alot less having not purchased a purge kit.

You guys do it however you need to. I'm just telling you how my buddies do it. And it's not in the burnout out box. It's sitting in place after the burnout before the pre-stage beams (or before the other car is staged for a street race). Just bring up the revs and bump the button. It's not even a purge kit. It's just making sure there's no air in the line. How many seconds will an air pocket cost you? Well, that all goes back to that blown off air hat comment, I guess.

Now, the three of us that are arguing over purge kits know that the whole key to winning a street race is to be stealthy. Greg's at a disadvantage there with a freakin' four-link set-up poking thru the bed, but Scott's got his bottle in a tool box. So we obviously understand stealth. Therefore I'm not gonna argue anymore. Stop trying to pick a fight over nitrous set-ups.
