Yeah It says to use a 1/4 inch NPT pipe plug from home depot........What is NPT mean?

They said they never heard of it....

It isn't threaded right?

The sensor twists and pull up to get out right...

Please help, I'm stuck on that mod but been trying to do it....
BTW: how much will it help the motor?

NPT is an american plumbing standard that describes the number of threads per inch or thread pitch. As far the IAT sensor relocation goes it should help the motor performance when the motor is at operating temp by more acuratly measuring the temp of the incoming air to the intake. The stock placement of the IAT sensor they have placed it so that the heat from the motor fools the sensor thinking the incoming air is much hotter than it is. This will lean out the fuel to air mixture (less fuel) creating less power. A richer fuel to air mixture creats more power but a hotter motor. Two other mods that should be done at the same time as moving the IAT sensor is to change out the stock coolent thermostat, normally 195 degrees, for a 180 degree thermostat.(Robertshaw P/N GT755-180) and changing out the stock plugs for a cooler plug, (Autolite P/N 3923 NOTE the gap should be like .004" less than factory recomended). These two mods will help keep the motor cooler thus leingthing the life of the motor and creating more power. Hope this helps!

I part-time at The Home Depot in Gresham, Or. and have discovere that while they we '...help in all departments...', not everyong can help too well. Sadly, most of the home improvement "boxes" generally pay so poorly most qualified people don't want to waste their available time moon-lighting in them. [Fortunately, my qualifications convinced a decent part-time wage and selection of hours!!]. I've found this to be happening more often in the past couple of years. Bummer for the folks who aren't construction fluent,...D

Forgive me for being ignorant,

But, if you move the IAT sensor to a cooler location, it will richen the fuel mixture, however, in a closed loop situation, (that is when the engine is at normal operating temperature and the o2 sensor working), wouldn't the engine computer lean out the mixture from the o2 sensor signals?

The only way to keep a rich fuel mixture is to remap the computer, right? This way the computer will keep the mixture rich even with the o2 sensor in operation.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. That's why i haven't done the IAT sensor mod yet.

That sounds about correct to me as well.

I've messed with some of the mods. The IAT resistor mod doesn't seem to do anything much. Especially to a STOCK setup. Mine was allready in the tube. For those with the IAT in the aluminum intake, relocating it from the hot aluminum intake probably isn't a bad idea. Even though the PCM may adjust I'd rather have it see the correct air temp than what the hot intake gives it while sitting at a light or at a restart.

I have changed my intake tubing and am running my engine colder than stock with my 160 degree t-stat and electric fan control (no clutch fan). No codes thrown yet and the heater still works. Probably because I removed the clutch fan. My temp gauge stay s just off of the "C" all the time unless I pull a load on a hill. Then it still stays less than half way.

But I also think with a closed loop system and the fact that it makes adjustments given it's programming, some of the mods don't do anything much but it's nice to play with a new truck anyway!

if, you are staying near cold, that means your truck is running rich. The oxygen sensor never comes into play until i believe 180 deg.

So, you are getting a rich mixture. People like hypertech and other chip mods change the standard operating temp. This tells the computer to run a closed loop. That means incorporate the o2 sensor into the equation.

Otherwise, without the reflash of the computer you are running open loop. That means warm up mod all the time. If, i'm not mistaken, wouldn't this foul your cat or clog it up? Take a look at your plugs Graphite. Are you getting a clean burn?

I just curious.
