Subject: grinding traction bars?

a while ago i posted a question about how my lakewood traction bars wouldnt fit my 98 4x4 v8. well today i had an idea. i was thinking i might grind down the corners of the traction bars in the middle a bit so they'll fit under the axle's bracket (where the u-bolts are currently) if i go with longer bolts, the traction bars wont suit where i need them to. my question though is this, if i take about 1/2 inch off the top corners will it still provide enough strength throughout the traction bar?

If your only grining the corners you should still have plenty of strength.
