Message:
i just had a couple of questions first when i took my radator cap off today for the first time the coolant was a brownish red color that reminded me of dex-cool as far a i know only GM uses dex-cool is this normal. second i was thinking of putting a 180 t-stat in and was looking around to see were the thing goes. i am used to my old 89 chevy pickup were i can physically see the t-stat housing on top of the intake manifold right in front. please help a new guy out, thanks

if you are looking at the truck head on then the housing is on the bottom of the block on the left (passenger) side. It's kinda hard to see and I have yet to figure out how to get to it to change it to a 180 t-stat, but I will do this.

Where can you get the 180 T-stat? I have been looking online but no where seems to carry it.

Stant superstat# 65358 or buy from speedtweaks.com they sell the Robertshaw is made from all brass. It is fairly easy to install on the 4.7 , I have 2 Daks with the 4.7 it takes me 20 minutes to do one T-stat. The lwr housing is connected to the lwr radiator hose end. two 8 mm bolts, use 1/4" drive and ratchet for easy on and off. make sure to install the gasket seal correctly. it has a notch that locks into the housing and the seal is actually thicker in depth on one side this goes into the housing.... You do not need to remove clamp from hose to get hose off housing, just pull upward hold near fan, and reistall T stat first & carefully put housing in block, housing has brass rings that fit in block makes install simple.

You can save the coolant as it comes gushing out. use alot of buckets or pans, yes i never thought they would install a T-stat in lwr hose area also. It is almost easier to just add fresh coolant. just another 6.00 to the fun.
