I am 15 but will be 16 in a few months and I am wanting to buy a truck really soon. I am thinking about getting a 97 or a 98 Dodge Dakota with a V6. I was wondering how much power a V6 motor has in a dakota? Does it have enough power to cut the tires loose?

In a stick shift? Yes, under proper conditions you can actually get a pretty good squawk going into 3rd. In an automatic? It's harder, but doable I would suppose. There are some fairly simply mods that can be done to improve the power as well, such as relocation the IAT sensor (requires a drill and a 1/2" pipe-plug), adding an air-intake (can build your own), and a few other simple bolt ons and mods. It really depends on how confident you are when working with the engine.

If your really looking for power though, right off the bat with an automatic, I'd probally check into the 5.2L V8s. Although those will likely be outside of your price range. To be honest, just about any modification you can do to a 5.2, you can do to the 3.9, since the 3.9 is a 5.2 with 2 cylinders removed.

My truck (in sig) is capable of smoking the drive tire up through second gear from a dead stop on dry pavement as long as I grab the shift right. First gear can be cause smoked tires without difficulty. Only problem being that for my truck, with the larger wheels, tires are -expensive-!

'00 RC Sport, Forest Green, 3.9L, 5-speed 3.55, Airaid Intake with relocated IAT, Autolite 3923s, Ported Throttle Body, Borg & Warner Cap/Rotor, Accel Coil, JBA 9mm Wires

Well I dont have enough money to get a V8, and insurance would be high for me. I have around $8,500 to spend. But i figure i can get a 98 dakota, regular cab, V6 for about 8,000 at the most. Then i plan on putting Flowmasters on and a air intake. And also i have to have my 12" subs behind my seat :) .

Dåmn right you can squawk the tires in a V6! Mine does so quite regularly, and yes, it is an auto.

Does'nt the thought of a 15 year old with little or no driving experience , who's main concern is breaking the tires loose in his first "car" bother anyone just a bit? Justin, you may be a nice kid but don't go getting your insurance to double, or worse throwing 4500lbs of steel at 90 mph into your best friend . Trust me , I was young and "responsible" once too. I just about did myself in in a 400 cu in V8 a number of times then. Now I realize how stupid and unskilled I was. Get your truck, put your heart into stereos and other mods(including performance mods) but remember...You'll want a 5.9L R/T some day, so live to see it.
