I want something that doesn't vibrate my head when going a steady speed. Basically I want something that is loud on acceleration but not so loud on the highway.

Dynomax and Magnaflow owners - did you notice any drop in low end torque due to the straight-through design?

DynoMax user here. Only a small drop in low end torque, but it's quiet as a mouse until you step into it. Cruise on the highway and talk back & forth with no problems. No head drumming...

To balance out the low end torque loss, it's got gobs of power from 2500 on up....

I like my Gibson 3" single side. Pretty quiet in the cab at cruise. Sounds good under acceleration.

I used to run a single in dual out Dynomax (love that lifetime warranty,,,used it many times). Very quiet when cruising,,don't notice till you open her up!
Currently run a Flow.40 series on my 4.7,,like it much more. But that's my personal flavor.

I switched from a 40 series flow to a straight
through Dynomax ultra flow race welded
muffler with 3" cat back.

the flowmaster wasnt loud enough. Also, the
sound from the flowmaster was kind of raspy,
the Dynomax has a much deeper mellower
tone.

If I cruise at 65, its pretty much silent, If I cruise
at 75, its louder than sin. I think it sits low
enough in the rpm range at 65 mph where the
exhaust is tolerable for long periods. the
higher the rpms, the louder she gets.

I have a magnaflow on mine and didn't motice much of a difference. if there was a loss it wasn't much. and I like the way that it sounds. it purs at idle and growles when you step on it. and at crusing speeds it's not very loud at all. Over all I am glad that I went with the Magnaflow.

DynoMax or maganaflow useres; does yours have that raspy almost rattle sound when you are on it hard(like you have a straight pipe) It is hard to explain, but does it make a rattle/pulsing noise under acc. and decel.

I have a Gibson, and a high flow cat and combined they are giving me that noise VERY bad.

Have you tried installing a resonator on the end of the tail pipe?

Sounds as though you are experiencing harmonic resonance. At a certain RPM the exhaust length will be "tuned" and it will get louder and louder the longer it is at that RPM.

We had a tuned exhaust on a Datsun 510 sedna that would resonate at 95MPH in 4th. Held there long enough it would start jumping in the hangers and start thumping the floorboards! It shoudl scavenge better when the condition occurs, but the noise is God awful.
