i work in a tire shop and the saying "you get what you pay for" applies here!

think about it, the tires are the only part of your car that touch the ground. all motions (accelerating, breaking, and cornering) are transfered through the tires. why would you want to go cheap on them??

i sware not a day goes by, that a customer comes in with a 40-80K benz or bmw, and wants to put on a $50 tire. its pretty sad, they will spring for the 5k navigation system, but want to put on cheap tires.

so what if you spend 100-150 a tire, what do they last? 50-70k miles? YOU SHOULD BE SO LUCKY!! mine cost $301.99 EACH and last about 30k!! NOW THAT'S SOME F'D UP ISH!!

my company sends us to ciminars, and "ride and drives" where we get to beat the crap out of cars set up with differant tires mounted on them. WHAT A DIFFERANCT BETWEEN GOOD AND CHEAP TIRES!!

Kota on 20s, it sounds like your company should stop sending you to ciminars and send you to night school instead.
Tire salesmen are pretty close to the bottom of the barrel in terms of sleeziness. I wouldnt trust any of them in an empty room with a quarter crazy glued to the floor!

Good response kota, well said....!

Any recomendations on a good tire for a 4.7L 4x4?
I'd like to go a little taller but can't afford a body lift right now. I see a lot of Rams on the road using BF Goodrich All-Terains, they look pretty good. They have a nice square look to them.
Thanks!!!
You deff. get what you pay for when it comes to tires. Ross, spend the extra $$$$ for good rubber.

You should check TireRack.com, they seem to have pretty competitive prices.

Well, like kota said, you get what you pay for. I personally think the extra money is worth it for tires. I got rid of the stock Eagle RSA's and went with BFGoodrich G-Force KDW 275/40/ZR17's for my truck. They are $200 a tire, but it is worth it when it comes to maneuverability and handling. Also the wet traction on these tires ae awesome...

Yes, you probably have to pay at least a $100 a tire for decent tires. That being said, you should be able to find something pretty decent at that price. You can always spend more.

I like to look at Tirerack.com and read the customer surveys on different tires. You may find an inexpensive tire that people really like.

Black Magic, a guy i work with has a jeep wrangler and is all into off roading. he loves the bfg's. they are a good all around tire. when i go in to work tomorow, ill look to see what is the biggest size you can put on your 4x4 without having problems.

Kris, you are right about the KDW's! the next set of tires i will get will be them. i just hope they ride as good as my michelins (they should since mich owns bfg)

What size tire? I paid $100/ea for Michelin X-Ones and then around $50/ea last time around courtesy of their mileage warranty!! Got a flat on the driver-side rear a couple weeks ago and popped on an original Eagle LS ($152/ea) and that tire's so much worse for wet and dry traction that half the time IT spins instead of the one w/o any weight on it!

Mileage warranty = good! :-)

The "you get what you pay for" saying doesn't always apply for tires. I have a pair of 255/55/17 Kuhmo ECSTA 711's pon my truck right now. Paid $88 each for them. They have better traction and handling than the $130 each 275/50 Falkens I also have on, or the $160 each 275/55 Pirelli Scorpion Zero's I had on before. Compared to all the tires I've ran(5 different types/brands) The Kuhmo's are the cheapest. All the others were $130+ each with the most expensive being the BFG Scorchers($228 when they were real popular). ANd the Kuhmo's are probably in second place as far as handling and traction. Havn't had them long enough to comment on tread wear though. The best tires I've used were the BFG G-Force KDWS 255/50 size.

i do have to agree with you HSKR!! i personally have never had kuhmo's, but i have talked to a few people with them, and they all say they compete verry well with the more expencive tires. the prices on there tires are really good.

For the 4x4 questions, I'm running 33X15's BFG muds on my YJ. They are a fantastic tire. Not too loud, not overly agressive, but seem to work well in any condition. (Except ice). ;) Aired 'em down several times when wheelin'. Tri-wall still holds up. The new model BFG mud looks even meaner and are rated just as well on and off road. Especially for the price, $140 a tire, you can't beat 'em. I think you can go about 32" on your dakota without lifting it.
