Subject: ATI airhat and Powerdyne?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just got an ATI airhat for my truck because my stock hat has a piece broke out. After installing the ATI hat I noticed I was only making 3-4 lbs. of boost where as with the broke stock one it made 6 lbs. all day long. Is the loss of boost pressure due to the plenum volume reduction between the two airhats? Any sugstions to get my lost boost back?

Just to update, I put a 1/2" air cleaner spacer on and that brought the boost back to 5lbs. so I guess maybe the plenum volume had something to do with it.

Lew: The ATI airhats obstruct the linkage at WOT. That's why you weren't making full boost. Also, make sure that the spacer is not leaking as we had the same problem on two other supercharged R/T's ('98 and '99 models). We used an Edelbrock (plastic) spacer, then a "no-name" metal spacer, and both still leaked at the sealing points. We've built our own spacer and it doesn't leak...includes two rubber/metal-reinforced gaskets as well. I'll have the information up on the website a bit later (need to put up the pictures).
