Subject: Headers for R/T

Message:
Any suggestions for headers for a 99 R/T. It has the two downpipes that go into the cat and one pipe coming out of the cat. I have a flowmaster 40 series. I have looked into JBA, Mopar and Borla. Anyone have other ideas?

Also, what prices are people paying. I seem to see a WIDE variety of prices on headers, and I'm not always sure what that includes. (just headers, headers and pipes, gaskets, etc.)

Don't short yourself!! Get the Mopars or Kenne Bell headers. Not sure on the Kenne Bells, but you can get the Mopar(PPH) headers for around $420. The Mopars come complete with everythign needed to take you from engine to the cat. The JBA and Borla headers are shorties and bolt up to your stock downpipes.

Can't I get JBA's and then have the muffler shop provide and bend larger downpipes from the end of the header to the cat? Just wondering, and what size is good to go with (what size downpipes do the mopar headers come with). Also is PPH the same as Mopar? Thanks for the help.

Also, sorry I forgot to ask, where do you get the mopar's for 420? I have seen them more around 550, and it seemed very high. is there a website that has them for $420? Thanks

Anything I can do for header heat if I hadn't had the ceramic coating put on before I installed them?

I just got PPH headers put on my 99 R/T 2 weekends ago. Man with those headers and my flowmaster 40 series muffler. My truck is damn loud. Louder than those Jap rides and Mustangs. I noticed a huge difference at higher rpm's. It pulls stronger from 3000 up. I increased 2 1/2 mph in the 1/4 with those headers and the IAT adjustor.
Mike D: You can put header wrap on. Jegs, summit and other sell it. Also some places carry high temp paint but it comes off after time, and you would have to take the exhaust down so you dont get the paint everywhere.

Don't put header wrap on them, that is like putting a blanket on in August. Good for your exterior heat, but it will just make the headers that much hotter and void any warranty you may have.

You may need to free up your exhuast or lean up your intake to cool them down. Get rid of those pre-cats and factory Y pipe, those keep the head close to the engine. You should have bought full length headers for your O1, but of course that doesn't do you any good now.

Well I think I've pretty much freed up my exhaust about as good as its gonna get w/ true duals...and how do I lean up the intake? Think I'll leave on the precats since I removed 3rd cat so I"ll have some backpressure and won't throw a code. Guess the only good option is to take em off and get a ceramic coat put on them.

Intake air temp. adjuster, it tricks the engine into thinking it's breathing cold air. In return you get a little better performance.
