I notice the trend seems to be building up strokers and putting on blowers but I'm interested in a different approach. Can you build a 318 for high revs and long life on the street? It seems to me a nice short stroke and light reciprocating mass with roller gear and maybe some R/T 2.02 valve heads would make a nice package for a NA street driven weekend racer.

Am I missing something.

Pro's?
Con's?

2.02 heads are probably too much for the street on a 318. most people who do a stroked and supercharged engine have a lot of $$$ to dump into their trucks, and they will KILL a NA 318. (not to mencion every other truck on the road)

you could MABY get a gen 3 NA 318 into the 13's, but no way in the world will it compete against a sc'd 408

Hey I don't really want a 13 sec truck I still have to drive this thing in the snow I just want to have a competitve rig. I figured it'd be more streetable if the real horse power came on higer up.

I guess I want to know 2 things,

Can you substitute higher revs for bigger stroke?

and

If you build it to rev will it misbehave at lower rpm's.

Thanks,

Middy.

well it just depends on the cam. a ferrari can scream to 8500 rpm, and be verry streetable at low rpm's (they might use variable valve timeing like honda thow, but im not sure)

a higher reving engine isnt really a more streetable engine. afterall how many times are you going to rev it to 6k on the street? if you want a streetable engine, build it for torque (expecially in a 4000+ lb truck) you will have power down low where you need it.
